Ten Day Detour For Building Traffic Circle in Colts Neck

The intersection of Crine Road (County Road 4) Dutch Lane (County Road 46) and Heulitt Road in Colts Neck will be closed from April 22 through May 2 for the installation of a roundabout.

Motorist heading east should follow Vanderburg Road to Boundary Road to Cedar Drive to Heyers Mill Road to Flock Road to State Hwy. 34 to Conover Road. Motorists travelling west should use the reverse route. A detour route has been posted.

“This intersection improvement project has reached the point where we must implement the scheduled 10 day detour of all traffic,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to Public Works and Engineering. “Motorists should expect travel delays in the area and plan alternate routes.”

“As the County has grown over the years, there has been an increase in traffic,” said Arnone,“What accommodated traffic flows years ago is sometimes insufficient today and that is the case with the intersection at Crine Road. This roundabout will accommodate current and future traffic.”

Responding to a request by Colts Neck officials, Monmouth County engineers studied the traffic patterns and alignment of Crine Road, where it intersects Dutch Lane Road and Heulitt Road, to see what can be done to improve safety at the intersection.

“When this study began in 2008, I asked the county engineer to look at what improvements could be made, but to keep in mind that any changes must meet the design objectives of a designated scenic road,” Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said. “Crine Road has already been identified as a scenic road in ‘The Monmouth County Scenic Roadway Plan,’ which was adopted by the County’s Planning Board in 2001.”

The work is being performed by Earle Asphalt Company of Farmingdale. A contract in the amount of $1,256,313 was awarded by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders in July 2014.
