Sign the petition: Extradite Chesimard

With the United States exchanging prisoners with Cuba and moving quickly to normalizing relations with Castro regime, there is a growing movement in New Jersey to prevail upon the Obama Administration to extradite convicted cop killer Joanne Chesimard, aka Assata Shakur back to New Jersey to serve her sentence for the murder of State Trooper Werner Foerster.

Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen has demanded that White House officials secure Chesimard’s extradition.  Congressman Leonard Lance has written to Secretary of State John Kerry insisting that Chesimard’s extradition be a condition of normalized relations with Cuba.

Chesimard murdered Foerster on the NJ Turnpike in East Brunswick in 1973.  She escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility for Women in Hunterdon County during a brazen breakout orchestrated by the Black Liberation Army, of which she was a member, in 1979.   The first woman on the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list, Chesimard has been living openly in Cuba under the name Assata Shakur since Fidel Castro granted her political asylum.
