Where’s the difference between Gandolfini and Snooki, who Christie doesn’t like? Both are actors portraying a stereotype.

I wish I worked at a Government building I would defy this flag lowering dictate most ceremoniously.

Where’s the difference between Gandolfini and Snooki?

    Really?

  3. Tommy De Seno said at 3:35 pm on June 21st, 2013:

I already told you the similarity; both are actors perpetuating a stereotype.

    So where is the difference?

I’ll throw in Step ‘n Fetchit and Al Jolson’s blackface.

    Where is the difference?

Snookie is not acting – thats what he show was called “reality TV”. She really is a slob. Just because he played a bad character in his show does not make him a bad person. If he played Mr. Roger’s would it be ok then?

He’s an actor following a script. If you don’t like it, blame David Chase. Btw- stereotyping in movies is not limited to Italians in the mafia. You would be hard pressed to find an actor who hasn’t been in character that can be viewed as stereotypical in one way or another. Take a shot.

No Snooki was acting as well.

The show has a fabricated storyline and a loose script. Not reality at all.

There is a reason why in the first season they never used anyone’s last name. The show was tailored to look like 8 Italian kids, which is why they had the Italian flag, called themselves “Guido” and talked about Italian family values (in between screwing and fighting of course), etc.

The problem was half the cast wasn’t Italian, including Snooki.

She was acting the part, just as Al Jolson did when he put on blackface.

There is no difference between Snooki and Gandolfini.

and, I thought it was supposed to be for more serious reasons.. Seems to diminish the significance of the gesture, to me..

Snooki is an Italian-American. She may have been born in South America but she was adopted by Italian-American parents and raised in an Italian-American family. Snooki has the soul of an Italian-American, her DNA notwithstanding.
