There were at least unhappy four people of the approximately 500 Republicans celebrating Lincoln Day in Monmouth County last night.

Bayshore Tea Party Group Co-founders, Barbara Gonzalez and Bob Gordon, along with their opposite sex spouses, Frank Gonzalez and Lynn Gordon stood up during Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno’s speech and quietly walked out of the Shore Casino in Atantic Highlands.

The Tea Partiers were upset about the support of Mitt Romney expressed by Guadagno and other speakers.

In an email to BTPG members sent after the event, Gonzalez said,

Some of us attended the Lincoln Dinner this evening, which is a republican event, held at the Shore Casino.

Four of us walked out during Lt Governor’s speech.     Why?

Well, first, one speaker got up and told us how no other candidate is worth a crap and how Romney is the only one we should support.   Then, the Lt Governor got up and spewed the same garbage.

The four of us that walked out were appalled.  This was a disgraceful way for the republican party to act.  There are three other candidates running on the republican ticket.  How dare they.

That being said, what are you going to do about it?   Are you going to let them dictate who we should be voting for?  Whether you support Gingrich, Santorum or Paul, you should hopefully be working your  butt off for them.

We are actively doing some work for Santorum from the office if anyone is interested.  Helene is the county leader, so contact her or reply to me if you want to help.  I can tell you this….my passion to have Santorum win has just been increased by what I saw this evening.

Hell hath no fury like a woman being told who to vote for!

Other speakers who spoke in support of Romney were New Jersey National Republican Committeeman Bill Palatucci and Congressman Chris Smith.

On her facebook page, Gonzalez posted:

I HAVE NEWS FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF NEW JERSEY: ROMNEY IS NOT THE ONLY CANDIDATE IN THIS RACE AND IT WAS DISGRACEFUL TONIGHT AT THE LINCOLN DINNER. I AM ASHAMED TO BE A REPUBLICAN. THEY SAID WE ALL HAD TO VOTE FOR ROMNEY AND THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN WIN. WELL, HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS!!! YOU JUST GAVE THE TEA PARTY A SHOT OF ADRENALINE! AGAIN, THAT WAS TOTALLY DISGRACEFUL.

I don’t know what dinner they were at but at the Lincoln Day dinner last night I heard people who stated their support for Mitt Romney but didn’t say anyone HAD TO VOTE FOR HIM.

For me, I’m going to look for Obama’s name and vote for the other guy.

  2. Shirley said at 8:03 am on February 13th, 2012:

It takes allot of courage to stand up and even more to stay neutral on a Presidential race.

Joe Rullo decided not to endorse anyone or show support to avoid this very scenerio.

  3. Tom Stokes said at 8:33 am on February 13th, 2012:

    Obama must love this.

  4. Palatucci? said at 9:15 am on February 13th, 2012:

No matter who you support, Palatucci’s speech was very distasteful. Other speakers promoted Romney as their choice, but Palatucci openly and disgracefully mocked every other Republican candidate, from Pawlenty or Perry to Gingrich or Santorum.

Who’s this Palatucci (other than, as he said, Christie’s close friend)? Perry is a sitting Governor and Gingrich was Speaker of the House.

And what about the people with the Ron Paul petition that were kicked out of the building?

We Heartily Concur About How Distasteful Last Night Was, Having To Sit Thru The Establishment & Insulting Pablum.

What, People Are No Longer Allowed To Have A Personal Opinion & Vote As To Who They Think The Best Candidate Is.

If So, Why Are We Even Having A Primary. Are We To Anoint Another Flawed Candidate Who The Media Wants?

McCain, Obama & Romney All Fit That Bill.

CHAIRMAN OXLEY, WE DEMAND AN APPOLOGY

Good for you Barbara and Frank!!! It’s about time people start standing up and being heard, instead of following the “leaders” of a cliff like a bunch of lemmings.

The purpose of primaries is to vet the strongest candidate against the democratic rival. From what I see, this process is far from over. Santorium has taken some big bites out of Romney’s momentum. Romney may eventually win at the end; however, he has clearly shown that there is a relevant voice to be heard–and Romney may have to acknowledge that down the road.

As for Guadagno—isn’t she the one that mislead the County taxpayers and County Human Resources Department with pension fraud??? (http://newjersey.watchdog.org/2010/10/20/1286/)

Isn’t she the one that refused to answer Art’s questions about this in the past??

Remember: it’s little people like us that made little people like her BIG.

  8. Hooray Tea Party!!! said at 11:16 am on February 13th, 2012:

I agree with the above post. There must be some discourse within the organization. Debate only makes this party and country stronger. This is how this great country was founded through intellect and debate.

To follow the “leadership” and suggestions of Guadagno and Palatucci is very wrong–especially without arm twisting or name calling.

What does Guadagno gain out of this?? Possible governorship if Christie, who already endorsed Romney very early gets some post.

I have continually read of Guadagno’s role in the pension scandal in Monmouth County and find it disgusting to say the least. This is not who I want as my leader or next governor!!

    Go Barbara!!!!

  9. Menendez & Kyrillos Perfect Together said at 11:56 am on February 13th, 2012:

State Senator Kyrillos will not be able to defeat US Senator Menendez. They are identical in contrast giving the edge to the incumbent.

Illegal immigration – Both did nothing.

    Unemployment – Both caused it.

Dirty donations – Both accepted them.

    Foreclosures – Both did nothing.

Health insurance – Kyrillos gets caddie benefits for part-time position in Senate.

Debt – Both caused it in NJ.

Change – Both are career politicians.

Reality – Public goes with incumbent by default.

I was one of the people with a Ron Paul petition. I was asked to stand in the corner away from everyone because the people at the event only like Romney and Ron Paul effends them. I said I did not realize this was a Romney rally, I thought it was an open GOP event. I had pocket constitutions with my petition, maybe the Monmouth county Gop establishment thought they were offensive also?

  11. The Tainted Tea drinkers said at 12:44 pm on February 13th, 2012:

What are they drinking? Obviously they planned this charade.

They were RUDE to walk out on the guest speaker, Lt Governor Kim Guadagno. They came knowing who supports Mitt Romney and who the Guest speaker was, it’s no secret , who do they think they are kidding? They are putting words in the speaker’s mouths. Not one speaker “demanded” anyone to vote for anyone.

“The Tainted Tea Group” made sure they finished their dinner before leaving, I’d bet. Their charade backfired and they merely looked childish and foolish, to the few that even noticed(or cared). It’s like watching Anna Little crash and burn. Peas in a Pod, sad to see this group of adults behave so poorly and child-like. Shame on them

  12. Charles M said at 3:10 pm on February 13th, 2012:

As someone who is a proud Republican, but who is conservative; I thought Bill’s speech while it was his personal opinion was a little over-the-top.

Both the Lt. Governor and Congressman Chris Smith both show their support for Mitt Romney, and that’s absolutely fine. However what separated their speeches from Bills was the fact that Bill went after the other Republican candidates in a negative manner.

As far as I can recall I don’t believe Chairman Oxley mentioned Mitt Romney during his speech.

  13. Truth Hurts said at 3:51 pm on February 13th, 2012:

The dividing of the Republican party and bashing candidates is disgusting. The Dems love that we do this. Can you bash another republican and feel good about it? Just another case of doing whats best for the individuals to better their agendas and pad personal pensions. I almost threw up in my mouth. Palatucci and Guadagno should be ashamed of themselves (again) and Joe Oxley should comment on this totally unprofessional behavior that makes the Monmouth County Republicans look like a hot mess of amateurs with lots of in-fighting.

  14. The Doktor said at 3:55 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Why is it that are political process grows ever more delusional? Government has become a large burden. NJ has way too many government employees who think that the world owes them a living. Muni-, County, State and Federal employees are costing us way more than they should. The levels of duplication, interference and general failure that we are paying for would never grow in a free marketplace. Sadly, the warfare / welfare state has become a burden that our children and their children must endure. We once had a country that was truly the marvel of the world. Today, we all ought to apologize to posterity for our failure to work for a better life to pass down to them. Everybody seems more concerned about me, myself and I than about offering the world a beneficial product, service and reason to return for more. How often do we see our elected representatives speaking about helping their constituents while they are legislating mandatory debts that will ruin our ability to enjoy free markets. The only candidate who seems to know what is causing our failures and what to do to restore a healthy USA is Dr. Paul. Vote for the candidates who want to reduce government. We need to tell the big spending Republicans who will keep wasting money that a smaller government will save our kids the misery we are growing for them. Just think about what you are handing to your kids when you vote.

  15. RINO HATER said at 4:31 pm on February 13th, 2012:

One thing I hate is that the teachers, police and govt. workers pensions are so lucrative and the benefits, vacation sick time and all the other perks and windfalls are so rich.

Who has the guts to end the madness? Who are the defenders of the status qou? There are many many politicians that dont have courage and stand up to fight for change. Two people who I think have courage and nerve are christie and Curley. I dont see much else. I dont see many leaders. I see many RINO’s in our county.

  16. njclay said at 4:36 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Curley!!!??? Ha Ha Ha. Mr. “WE ARE SELLING THE NURSING HOMES THAT ARE LOSING MONEY!” Who a month later says “we need to weigh the everyones needs and that they are no longer for sale.” Everyones needs but the taxpayers I quess. He buckled pretty quick in the face of the big bad nurses union. Oh thats right he is up for election this year. Fake!

  17. ScrewtheseRINOS said at 5:43 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Screw these asshole RINOs who want to pretend everyone is behind Romney. The world is changing and the days of the clink-your-glasses and Vote for Mitt crowd are over! Ron Paul 2012!

Awww c’mon, …who doesn’t love a good Lincoln Day controversy??

  19. Republican Girl said at 9:42 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Ok people, now that you have manufactured an additional 10 minutes of attention let us all turn our focus on the truth, lest those who were not present last night believe the diatribe.
This was after all a REPUBLICAN event. Yes those that spoke talked in a positive way about the candidate that ALL 21 county chairs have decided to support in this primary.
All Palatucci said was that there were republicans who came to him from the summer on and mentioned backing certain republican candidates and he told them on each occasion that he wasn’t sure it was the right thing. These candidates, Perry Bachman, Pawlenty are no longer in the race having dropped out of their own choosing. He was simply pointing to the fact that he gave good advice.

Now to the Tea Party. How many candidates have you endorsed? My head is spinning because every few days you pick someone else. (Shame to call anyone else a “flip-flopper” when it looks like the kettle calling…….)

Listen you are the Tea Party, free to endorse and support who you like. But then so is the Republican establishment. And if you don’t support the same person that’s fine too. That is why America is the greatest country in the World, because you can do that without getting your head lobbed off.

However, your behavior in walking out is incredibly disrespectful and childish. Did you also take all your toys and marbles home with you. Adults disagree but they do not behave as you did. You could still have voiced your opinion in a letter, blog or email, (where you likely would also have had your hand out begging for money) if you wanted to. But I hope you would learn to conduct yourselves in a better manner.

Be careful you antics will only be tolerated so long. Stop believing that all are willing or event interested in bending down and kissing your rings. You are fast becoming irrelevant in this state (Just ask Anna). Then what will you do, move to another state…. Oh then keep it up.

  20. Ask Anna???? said at 10:09 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Didn’t Anna knock off party favorite Gooch??? It can happen again.

  21. Joseph Abbruscato said at 10:14 pm on February 13th, 2012:

Every year, February 12th is a very proud day for Americans. Every blessed one of us should realize how special Lincoln’s birthday is. In actuality, he was the United States first stand alone Republican. Lincoln was a leader and had a lot of courage to fight for America. From 1861 to 1901, before Teddy Roosevelt, Seven Republicans in thirty years held the office of the presidency. In those days, that was the party growth and pride.

Today, the Republican Party have very few leaders. Also, they show no signs of growth. Yesterday, at the Shore Casino four true leaders did what I would’ve done and that is “Walk Out”! What took place yesterday was an absolute and pathetic mockery. For people to carry out such heinous remarks regarding the other 3 candidates was pompous and outright unconscionable. More disturbingly, we have a Lt. Governor that embraced all this. I am proud of Barbara, Bob, Lynn and Frank. Sincerely, they stood on principle. The GOP establishment certainly displays transparent regression. They lack leadership and common sense! They have no backbone! Most definitely, the GOP have no vetting skills. As a result, this party in New Jersey are deemed ineffective.

The Monmouth County Republicans were supposed to honor a great president; instead, they decided to raise there glasses to an absolute progressive in Mitt Romney and disrespect true Republicanism….the End.

  22. The Overseer said at 10:53 pm on February 13th, 2012:

The primary process in this county and in this state is a disgrace. Republican Girl, if indeed the Chairs of all 21 counties did endorse Mitt Romney without having a vote of all county committee members or a vote with town chairs that is a disgrace.

The county parties should work to have the 4 current Republican presidential candidates on the ballot in June. The people of this state deserve a choice; not just the one that the governor decided to endorse, and force his endorsement upon everyone else in the state.

  23. The Tea Party...... said at 4:52 am on February 14th, 2012:

The Tea Party has become another special interest group. They want respect and want to be taken seriously, and then they act like this. In all honesty, what did they expect going to a REPUBLICAN event?

Look, lets be honest, they need cash. We all know it. Every 5 minutes when an email is sent out its again asking for money. Let’s see how much money they’ll get now…

And to answer Ask Anna’s question. Yes Anna did beat Gooch, but not because Anna was so much better. Remember, it was 83 votes. It was because she (Anna) was ignored and the Gooch campaign was more focused on Pallone rather than Little. That’s the only reason why. If the Gooch campaign put the slightest effort again Anna, she wouldn’t be begging people to sign her US Senate petition, because she would be done! She’s a joke and everyone’s eyes roll every time she walks into a room these days.

The Tea Party has become a social right wing extremist special interest group. As long as you hate muslims, abortions, and gays, then you’re the only “true conservative.” Never mind the fact that the people they’re supporting (with the exception of Ron Paul) have voted time and time again to raise the debt ceiling and create new government programs; the things they claim to be fighting against. Please stop me when I’m wrong.

They want to talk about the establishment being “disrespectful”??? Everyone go on Barbara’s facebook page and see how many times she refers to Romney as Mittens? In fact, here’s an easier task, find out how many times she’s referred to the former Governor as Mitt and or Romney……….hypocrisy at its best!

  24. Barbara said at 12:38 pm on February 14th, 2012:

“The Overseer” said it best, so I won’t go on and on. I am a private citizen. When we endorsed Cain, the ONLY candidate the Bayshore Tea Party endorsed, we VOTED as a group. We have not endorsed another candidate. As a private citizen, I have the right to openly and actively support anyone I want. You keep saying it was a ” republican event”. Aren’t Santorum, Gingrich and Paul running on the Republican ticket? Knocking the other republican candidates at a republican event was disgraceful. When I refer to Mitt as Mittens on facebook that is my business…you don’t like it, don’t read it. Oh….by the way….we have been maintaining our headquarters for more than a year now, and will continue to do so. I know that just drives you nuts, but get used to it. WE AIN’T GOIN NOWHERE.

  25. Barbara said at 12:46 pm on February 14th, 2012:

“Be careful you antics will only be tolerated so long”
Republican Girl, is that a threat, because I may have to ask Art to report you.

  26. Dan said at 4:28 pm on February 14th, 2012:

The NJ GOP is a big joke, this is the party that endorses one canidate after another that supports the status qoe. Our state and our country are drowning in dept, the constitution is being trampled before our very eyes, we have a president demanding we buy health insurance and the best Republican girl and the Nj GOP can ofer is “Mitt Romneycare Romney” … Really? he took a differment to become a Mormen missionary when his country needed him. Ron Paul went when his country needed him, he never voted once for a tax increase, he is Pro-life with a message of economic growth that is unchallenged! Here is a message to NjGop, we have you surrounded and outnumbered, your days of shoving liberals at us are over. Ron Paul 2012. GAME ON!

  27. RINO Hater said at 6:40 pm on February 14th, 2012:

Guadagno beating up the other candidates is a disgusting disgrace to the GOP. She is supporting Romney cause her boss told her so and she has to keep her relationship on even keel.

  28. Republican Girl said at 5:53 pm on February 15th, 2012:

You and your ilk are the problem. The 21 County Chairmen are NOT the vote that decides things, it is the people via the primary system. Or, have you forgotten that?

The Lincoln Day dinner was was the most disgusting example of shilling I have ever seen.

It only served to alienate people instead of bring them together.
