Crony Capitalists: Handlin lets them have it, and gives you the tools to do them same

crony-capitialists-handlin“If you want to survive in this business, keep your mouth shut.”

That was the first piece of advice I got as a newly elected member of my county’s governing board in the 1990s. I was an idealistic political neophyte. My self-appointed mentor was a jaded party boss, one of the longest-serving political strongmen in the state. To me, accountability was key to integrity. But among his sycophants and hangers-on, this was a silly notion for suckers, fools or wimps.

Assemlywoman Amy Handlin in no sycophant or hanger-on.  Nor is she a sucker, fool or wimp.

In her hard hitting ebook published by HarperCollins, Handlin tells of her encounters with Monmouth County and New Jersey “Crony Capitalists”, and gives Tea Party members and other citizen activists and blueprint on how to fight corruption at the lowest levels of government.

The essay includes tales of Hanlin’s career as a Middletown committeewoman, Monmouth County Freeholder, Assemblywoman, as well as references to corrupt practices throughout the nation.

Crony Capitalist in Out Backyards: Who they are, What they do, and How to fight back is a must read for every citizen who wants to actually do something, and not just complain, about the wasteful and corrupt practices in government.

It’s only 30 pages and it only costs $1.99.  You can buy it here or here.

If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’ll recognise some of the characters in Handlin’s essay.

And yet, she managed to serve with, among and move up for the next 18 years, despite being tipped off with this first piece of advice in the 1990s.

    What a crock.

  2. "voices of the tea party"? said at 9:01 pm on January 2nd, 2012:

Seriously? Amy Handlin couldn’t find a tea party if she was married to earl grey. She should write about how she skated for over a decade on the coat tails of the Bid Rig central figures and now, NOW, finds out her closest advisors and compatriots were crooks.

    Hypocrisy, thy name is Handlin.

    unbelievable.

know the utter hypocrisy of one who was happy to take all the volunteer help, contributions, over many years, and skip past/stomp over, other, more loyal and deserving, conservative Republicans, in search of more recognition and a larger “part-time paycheck”.. wonder if she still considers people to “germy” to hug or shake hands with, in the people-business of all people businesses?.. shame on her, self-righteous and self-serving lib that she really is..

    The commentators above are Jackasses.
I strongly disagree with Amy on a couple of social issues and she is not always the most personable politician but she is a principled and courageous fiscal conservative. If not for Amy the County would have been saddled with an garbage incinerator that would have bankrupted us. She endured rampant anti -semitism and misogeny on the Board of Freeholders and fought for the voters every step of the way. Amy Handlin is a true public servant and deserves our gratitude not an unfounded attack on her integrity by a bunch of no-nothing hanger ons probably angry that the Larrison corruption train got derailed.
