9. Governor Jon Huntsman (69, 0.41%)
10. Congressman Thad McCotter (35, 0.21%)
Bachmann won thanks to home field advantage.
Ron Paul came in a close second thanks to his stark contrast with President Obama’s policies. Dr. Paul’s message of personal freedom, economic conservatism, a non-interventionist foreign policy and sound money is resonating with Iowans and Americans alike. Ron Paul 2012!
Pawlenty is probably kicking himself for not listening to advisors who told him he needed to come across as more crazy and extreme in order to appeal to the new base.
I do actually enjoy listening to Congressman Paul even though I don’t agree with him on many issues. If nothing else he is consistent in his positions.
Look at Ron Pauls voting record …he never wavers on spending or conservative issues this is the only guy that can beat BO
the RINO, old-time, GOP national establishment will finally get that we do not want a re-treaded candidate just because he didn’t get it last go-round!..if we get Romney and another lib-leaning white guy, kiss the 2012 race, and this country as we were brought up to know it, as dead, period at the end.. the majority of Americans of all leanings are screaming out that this guy, his ilk, and their dreams of socialist/statist nirvana, must be defeated next year..ps: there’s nothing “nutty” or extreme about wanting our country back as #1 in the world, with less spending and taxing, and a return to freedom and personal responsibility, as foremost in policy.. have no idea who we will untimately get, and though nobody’s perfect, pray every day that the right combo of basic sound values and policies will be our two candidates- that the hard-working, God-fearing, tax-paying Americans can get behind, so we can finally breathe again and not be so fearful of our collective futures, the way we are now!
Where is Barry Goldwater when you need him ? (Rhetorical question, of course; I know he is no longer alive)
“I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!”
“I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is “needed” before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ “interests,” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.”
Now that was a “Great American” !
Reality is that nobody that finished in the top 5 are going to be elected President in 2012.
It looks like the Paulist Bloggers are out in force. Sure, Paul takes a lot of positions that we love.
But, is he Presidential; does he have that “gravitas?” The guy came across like a nut the other night at the debate.
Of ALL things, let Iran have the bomb!
Come on folks, this guy is NOT Presidential material.
I think Pawlenty threw in the towel to fast.
this straw poll is not a good indicator of who will win the primary.
The biggest problem I have with Ron Paul and Michele Bachman is their isolationist foriegn policy.
The second problem is that the media has the ammunition to make them look like wingnuts, I am not saying they are just that
they can be made to look that way.
Of the two I like Bachman more.
Pawlenty was a true conservative and there was very little that the madia had which they could distort about him.
It will be interesting to see what Perry brings to the table.
In boxing parlance, did Pawlenty “take a dive” ? Kind of like the Liston-Ali rematch in Lewiston, Maine. Maybe “the fix was in” !
“You don’t need to be straight to fight and die for your country. You just need to be able to shoot straight”
Who said? Barry Goldwater, who would have been disgusted by the Chris Christies and Michelle Bachmannns that selectively invoke his memory.
