Highlands council announces possible layoffs of borough employees
HIGHLANDS — The Borough Council announced it may have to layoff 12 borough employees to meet the demands of the 2011 municipal budget at its meeting Wednesday night.
There are 53 borough employees, said Councilman Frank Nolan. The jobs at risk are four clerk positions, one from the tax collector, recreation, building and housing, finance and the police departments. The officials also are inquiring about the privatization of its garbage collect – that will eliminate five of its nine Department of Public Works employees. Other layoffs include three police officers as discussed at a previous council meeting.
