Fair Haven Councilman Takes His Own Life
John Lehnert, a Fair Haven councilman and former police officer was found dead outside a Jackson home this morning from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre told MMM that the news came as a profound shock early this morning when he was informed of the tragedy by Fair Haven Police Chief Darryl Breckinridge.
Halfacre said there were absolutely no signs of Lehnert being troubled or depressed.
Lehnert leaves behind his wife and two young daughters. He recently graduated from law school, took the bar exam this summer and was expected to start practicing law soon.
To the Lehnert family: My heart goes ou to you. Your pain must be unimaginable at this time. I am a 71 year old stepmother to three adult children whose mother died unexpectedly at age 34, when her children were very young. I married their father in 1973. I was divorced with two small children and had no idea what was involved in parenting grieving children. There was no one for the older children to talk with about how they were feeling. I believe that all three stepchildren have been negatively impacted by what happened to them after she died. So, I urge you to seek grief counseling as soon as practical. Today, I volunteer with a group that trains mental health workers nationally and internationally. We are The Dougy Center located in Portland, OR. Read about our work at http://dougy.org
