I feared for this country a year ago.  I feared that the American people had given up on the values that had made this country great.  That they had finally given up the can do self reliant attitude that made America different from the rest of the world. That we had given up on our unique vision of Liberty.  I feared they where ready to hand their future over to the complete control of the government.

 My fears were unfounded. They had not given up.  They were just not paying attention.  The truth that most of us political junkies do not realize is that most people hate politics.  They want nothing to do with it.  They also dislike politicians.  Knowing many politicians it is hard for me to blame them. 

But then they woke up.  They realized the change they were getting was not the change they wanted.  The majority of this country was not mad at George Bush for being too conservative.  They were mad at him because they bought into media canard that he lied to us, they were mad because of mismanagement but most of all they were mad because he was not conservative enough.  They were mad with Republicans for the same reasons they had become corrupted by the system.  They were no longer viewed as agents of reform but as part of the problem. They were not too conservative.  They were not conservative enough. 

So, they either stayed home on Election Day or decided to give the other guys (the ones promising change) a shot.  Then they saw the change they were getting was not what they wanted.

The Majority of Americans suddenly realized they do not want European type government.  They do not want the government taking care of them from cradle to grave. They realize it is not the government’s job to supply them with housing and medical care and jobs.  They don’t want the government to redistribute their money. They don’t want earmarks even for their own communities.  They don’t want their way of life destroyed by an extreme environmental policy.  They just want the Government to get the hell out of their way.  They woke up. The regular guys and gals decided to clean the sewer.  It is a dirty job but we better do it they said.  They have called themselves the Tea Party.  Contrary to the attacks of the media, Democrats and George Soros they are not the extremist fringe. They come from a diverse background, fiscal conservatives, the religious right, Libertarians, Reagan Democrats, constitutionalists all tied together by one thing. They want Government to do less.  Don’t believe me look at the polls.  They are not espousing anything that the majority doesn’t want.  

So how are they cleaning the sewer? They are being pretty smart about it.  Instead of going the way of a third party, which never works (take it from a Bull Moose who knows) they have orchestrated a hostile takeover of the Republican Party.  Long time elected Republicans like Murkowski in Alaska and Bennett in Utah have been defeated in primaries.  Establishment candidates have been defeated in primaries all across the nation.  Even here in NJ Monmouth Counties Anna Little surprised pundits by beating the party’s favorite daughter with nothing but her Little Army.

The Behemoth of the sleeping majority has arisen and it has changed the face of the Republican Party.  Come November it will change the face of America.
