Atlantic County Prosecutor Requests Delay In Shaneen Allen Case

NRA News is reporting that Atlantic County Prosecutor James McClain has requested a three week adjournment in the case of Shaneen Allen, a single mother who faces a possible 10 years in prison on gun charges for bringing her Pennsylvania licensed handgun into New Jersey.

NRA News reporter Ginny Simone said that McClain’s letter to the Court requested three weeks to review the case for an appropriate resolution. Allen’s attorney Evan Nappen said that letter is a hopeful sign that McClain is reconsidering his prosecution of Allen.

The case has gotten increased national attention in the wake of the video released of former NFL star Ray Rice knocking his then fiancee unconscious in Atlantic City last February. Rice, a 1st offender, was accepted into the Pre-Trial Invention Program which expunges the charges if the offender stays out of trouble for one year.  McClain overruled the PTI program’s recommendation that Allen be accepted into the program.  McClain’s office said they wanted to make an example of Allen.

    NICE.

But why does it take bad press to expose what should have been a “no brainer” in comparison to the Ray Rice matter?

If anyone should be made the example of, it is Rice. Too bad the Prosecutor can’t take back that decision.
