John Curtin, 19, of Woodland Avenue in Keansburg, was arrested last night and charged with the murder of Evan Smutz , 20, of Center Street in Keyport, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced.
Keyport police responded to a 911 call reporting the shooting at 12:48 p.m. at 2 Center Street. Police arrived to find Smutz with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at 1:21 p.m.
“It was hard work and determination by detectives in our Office and at the Keyport Police Department who quickly solved this murder and brought Mr. Curtin to justice for this crime,” Gramiccioni said. “This is a great credit to all of law enforcement and the community.” Read the rest of this entry »

A Good Samaritan recused a young male pit bull/mix that had been left in a cage on the shoreline of the Shrewsbury River in Highlands on Monday morning, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Angelo Curato, 26, of Manalapan, was arrested by federal authorities today and charged with convincing children to engage in sexually explicit conduct online, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
On June 2, 2017, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Curato’s residence. A forensic review of Curato’s laptop revealed hundreds of sexually explicit chat messages on his Skype accounts and hundreds of screenshots of boys engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
The defendant was arrested by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s at that time and charged with one count of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Possession of Child Pornography and one count of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Distribution of Child Pornography.
He is charged today by federal complaint with one count of producing visual depictions of a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has referred the corruption allegations against Freeholder John P. Curley made by former Assemblyman Michael Panter, in his capacity as in house counsel for Realty Data Systems, LLC, to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, according to Charles Webster, spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office.
Due to the allegations against a sitting Freeholder, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office forwarded Mr. Panter’s letter of March 27 to the Attorney General’s Office for review and to take whatever actions they deem appropriate, Webster wrote to MMM.

The FBI and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office have conducted at least five interviews into the conduct of Freeholder John P. Curley and former Monmouth County Counsel Timothy B. Middleton, Esq., according to former Assemblyman Michael Panter, in his capacity as in-house legal counsel of Realty Data Systems, LLC (RDS), a company that performs property inspections for many municipalities participating in the New Jersey Assessment Demonstration Program (ADP).
Panter disclosed the law enforcement investigation into Curley and Middleton in a detailed nine page letter to Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone, Monmouth County Counsel Michael Fitzgerald, and County Administrator Teri O’Connell, with copies to the Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI, wherein the former legislator alleges that Middleton was the author of the anonymous letter which alleged corruption in the ADP, that Curley referred, with great fanfare and press coverage, to the Prosecutor in September of 2015, during the height of his last reelection campaign. William H. Spaulding, Jr, 61, of Tinton Falls was found dead in the parking lot of the Home Depot store at Route 9 and West Farm Road in Howell on Friday afternoon.
The Howell Police Department said on facebook that Spaulding’s death in suspicious. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said an autopsy is expected to be performed on Saturday.
Howell Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at 1:31 p.m on Friday reporting a man lying on the ground at the Home Depot location. Spaulding was pronounced dead at the scene.
A married father and grandfather, Spaulding was a Tinton Falls homeowner since 1997, He was a sales manager at Sears, according to his LinkedIn profile. Former Municipal Court Judge Richard B. Thompson was admitted to the pre-trial intervention programs by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office–meaning he will not serve any prison time and the charges he pleaded guilty to will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for one year, according to a report at app.com.
Thompson will be eligible to have his criminal record expunged six months after successfully completing the program.

Karon Council, 18 of Neptune Township, the accused killer of 10 year old Yovanni Banos-Merino, is in the custody of the U.S. Marshall’s Service and is being transported back to New Jersey from, Charles Webster, spokesperson of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.
