900 + Celebrate the Golden Era at Sheriff’s Winter Gala

Over 900 of Shaun Golden’s friends, family, supporters and potential adversaries showed up for the Sherrif’s 9th annual winter gala at Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale on Friday night.

Always an exciting event, there was an additional energy this year as a rumor spread throughout political circles that Golden would announce his intention to run for governor in 2021.

Congressman Chris Smith has raised $730K for his reelection bid

Congressman Chris Smith has raised $729,885 for his reelection bid in the 4th congressional district of New Jersey, according to a report at NewJerseyGlobe.

Smith had $514,816 cash on hand as of December 31.

Smith has a wide fundraising lead over his potential Democrat opponents. Stephanie Schmid, the apparent establishment choice to take on Smith has raised $202,256, including $1000 from Jim Keady’s former campaign manager, and spent $114,139, leaving her with $88,117 cash on hand. $12,378.24 of Schmid’s expeditures were payable to herself for unspecified campaign expenses.

81 year old woman killed in Middletown car accident

A 81 year old woman was struck by a motor vehicle while she was walking on Bamm Hollow Road near Pelican Road on Wednesday evening.  She died as a result of her injuries, according to a statement by Detective Lt. Paul Bailey of the Middletown Township Police Department.

It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the residents of Monmouth County for the past five years in this capacity and I look forward to the next five year term with many more ideas and the enthusiasm to continue to build upon the successes we have had.”

Rich’s Statement of Organization was filed with the Federal Election Commission on January 22, 2020.

Trump addresses mayors, signs Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act of 2019

President Donald J. Trump addressed Transforming the Nation’s Communities before the U.S Conference of Mayors yesterday afternoon in the White House East Room.  Following his remarks, the President signed the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act of 2019 into law.

Congressman Chris Smith was a co-sponsor of the legislation which provides federal money for the protection of houses of worship and other nonprofits.

Burry files for reelection for her 6th term on the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders

Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian G. Burry has submitted the required petitions to seek the Monmouth County Republican Committee’s endorsement for her 6th term on the Board.

First elected in the wake of U.S. Attorney Chris Christie’s Operation Bid Rig II in 2005, Burry has been a leader in the transformation of Monmouth County government and the Monmouth GOP from a corrupt swamp to a beacon of good government. In 2005 , the Asbury Park Press had an ongoing investigative series, Club Monmouth, into the wasteful patronage of Monmouth County government.  This year, the APP editorial board said, “It isn’t easy finding major weaknesses in the way the county has been run in recent years. Spending has been kept in check and the county has maintained a triple-A bond rating. It takes shared services between towns seriously and it has made concerted efforts to improve the climate for small businesses.  The county also has one of the finest park systems in the state.” Lillian Burry has been a huge contributor to the reforms which warranted those accolades from a critical source. Hanlon commemorates 100 years of women voting

FREEHOLD, NJ –Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon is launching a year-long recognition program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.

“Since my office oversees a large part of the elections process for Monmouth County, I am proud to launch a county-wide program to celebrate the brave suffragists and all those who contributed to women gaining the right to vote 100 years ago,” said Clerk Hanlon.

Throughout the year, the County Clerk’s Office is working to engage and educate people of all ages through a variety of events, programs, and media. To start off the centennial year, Clerk Hanlon distributed sample resolutions commemorating the centennial to the governing bodies of Monmouth County’s 53 municipalities and to the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Bob Walsh: 1958-2020, Rest in Peace

Bob Walsh, a former mayor and councilman of Howell Township, passed away this morning after a valiant battle with brain cancer.  He was 61 years old.

Walsh was a passionate public servant, a loyal friend and a fierce adversary.   He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.  His impact on Howell and Monmouth County will be felt for years to come.
