Vietnam Hero Gets Silver Star 50 Years Late

Bart “Doc” Fabian, 71, a Veteran Army Medic of the Blackhorse Regiment (11th Armored Cavarly), received the Silver Star on July 18, 2020 for his heroic actions in Vietnam on April 13, 1969, during a ceremony at Congressman Chris Smith’s office in Freehold.

Curley’s lawsuit against Freeholders and County Administration is dismissed

The sad saga of former Monmouth County Freeholder John Curley’s career implostion is hopefully over.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit  dismissed Curley’s federal lawsuit against his fellow freeholders and the County Administrator and County Counsel on Wednesday.

Gopal abstains on $10 billion borrowing bill – O’Scanlon sues to halt the borrowing

Senator Vin Gopal did not vote on the controversial bill passed and signed into law yesterday that allows Governor Phil Murphy and four Democrat legislators to borrow up to $9.9 billion without voter approval.

New Jersey’s Constitution requires voters to approve state government debt. New Jersey’s Courts, and therefore its Democrat legislators and Governors, treat the Constitution as book of aphorisms.

I would like to provide an update of different projects and initiatives taking place throughout Monmouth County. 

As you may be aware, a few weeks ago my fellow Freeholders and I announced that the County will allocate $10 million from the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act to supplement the Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV).The funding will be utilized to provide grants of up to $10,000 to businesses with up to 50 employees.

David Applefield dies suddenly

David Applefield, 1956-2020. RIP

David Applefield, 64, of Red Bank died suddenly today, MMM has learned.

The candidate for Congress in the NJ-4 Democrat primary collapsed while exercising. He was pronounced at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.

Howell Police Department Gets $93K federal grant for Youth Engagement Program

The Howell Police Department has been awarded a $93,357 grant by the U.S. Department of Justice for its Youth Engagement Program , according to an announcement today by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.

Freehold Raceway Mall Receives Two Bomb Threats in Three Days

The Freehold Raceway Mall was subject to two bomb threats over the holiday weekend, according to a News12 report.

On Sunday, the Marlboro Police Department transferred a caller claiming there was a bomb in the mall to Freehold. The Freehold PD and Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officers, including K-9 units responded.

On Friday, another threat was received from a caller who sounded like a child, the report said.

After being closed since March due to the COVID-19 shutdown, most stores in the mall reopened on June 29.

Tuesday’s primary features N.J.‘s 1st Muslim woman candidate for Congress

Like many challengers to sitting House Democrats in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, writer Amani Al-Khatahtbeh supports Medicare for All and the Green New Deal and wants to end U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

What makes her different is that she is the first Muslim woman to run for Congress from New Jersey, according to Jetpac, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group that trains American Muslims to run for public office and become active in politics.
