Breaking: Monmouth County has two cases of coronavirus

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone told MMM there are two presumptive positive cases of coronavirus in Monmouth County.

The two presumptive cases are:

• Female, 83, in Hazlet being treated at Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Medical Center
• Male, 27,  in Little Silver, being treated at Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center (recently attended the Biogen conference in Boston)

Happy February! I’m excited that our friend Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow signaling an early spring will be upon us.

I would like to update you on what I have been up to the last couple weeks.

My fellow Freeholders and I have been keeping busy working on the 2020 Monmouth County Budget. As I have said many times before, we do not start working on the budget in the early months of the year. Arnone Report: Bridge Repairs, Recycling, Shared Services and other good stuff

I hope everyone is staying warm, happy and healthy this winter season. It sure has been a cold one the last few days but there is only a little more than 100 days until the unofficial start to the summer season!

In the meantime, I would like to provide an update of different projects and initiatives taking place throughout Monmouth County.

As of yesterday, Monday January 20^th, the Ocean Avenue Shark River Bridge (W-43) has been closed for emergency repairs. During a routine inspection of the Bridge, deterioration of the steel pinions, which support the bridge when it opens and closes, was found. The contract for the project was awarded to Cornell & Company, Inc. of Woodbury, NJ in the amount of $494,000.

Did Arnone heckle Impeachment Managers?

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone was in the U.S. Capitol today getting a tour from Congressman Chris Smith when the House Impeachment Managers came marching by on their way to the Senate.

Happy December! I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving with their family and friends!

The month of November was very busy for me and I would like to share what I have been up to around the County.

You may recall, last year we invited all fourth-grade students in Monmouth County to participate in an essay contest to help name our very own Monmouth County Recycling Mascot. Last April, we announced the first, second and third place winners of the contest. First place was awarded to Kiernan Turbitt of St. Leo the Great School in Lincroft. Kiernan got to name our first-ever recycling mascot, Recycling Rocky!

Arnone Report: Honoring Vets, Fighting Cancer and Thanking Voters

Happy November! It’s hard to believe we’re just a few weeks away from celebrating the holidays. It’s agreat time of the year and, as always, there is so much going on and so much to do in Monmouth County.

I’d like to start by thanking all of the veterans, past and present, who have served our country. We should continue to recognize their sacrifices throughout the entire year. It is because of their sacrifices we continue to enjoy our freedoms. Let us also not forget the sacrifices made by their families!

To honor our veterans, I spent the day on Monday with Sheriff Shaun Golden at numerous ceremonies throughout Monmouth County. First we joined my fellow Freeholder Sue Kiley and the Manasquan VFW Post 1838 for a brief ceremony before they headed to the NYC Veterans Day Parade. Afterwards, we attended the Asbury Park and Bradley Beach Veterans Day Ceremonies. Thank you to all our veterans for their courage, sacrifice and service to our great country! Arnone Report: County Had Successful Summer Season

It’s finally starting to feel like fall and I couldn’t be happier! From pumpkin picking to festivals and everything in between, there is always something fun to do during this season in Monmouth County.

I’ve certainly kept busy over the last few weeks at several events throughout the entire County that I would like to briefly share with you.

Despite celebrating the fall season, last week I joined my fellow Freeholders at the beach in Long Branch to host our annual End-of-Summer press conference. As liaison to the Department of Public Information and Tourism, I discussed how our businesses and towns fared through the 2019 season.

Arnone Report: Pound the Pavement for Purple

I would like to wish everyone a happy fall season – now that it’s beginning to finally feel a little cooler outside.

I’d like to focus on one topic in particular for this week’s letter and that is the upcoming Pound the Pavement for Purple 5k and 2-mile walk in Neptune and Neptune City this Saturday, October 12^th. This annual race is presented by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Neptune Township Committee.

Arnone Report: Freeholders’ Smart Investments Produce Big Savings

I hope everyone is having a great summer! I cannot believe we’re just a few weeks away from Labor Day!

The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering has been extremely busy this summer working on numerous projects throughout the County. As liaison to this department, I am happy to report on the status of several of these projects.

At our August 7^th Freeholder Meeting, the Board awarded a $9.2 million contract to Hall Building Corp. to complete interior renovations to the Seaview Building, a former commercial building the County owns next to the Seaview Square Mall. This $9.2 million award is a $2.3 million savings to the County and 22% less than we anticipated.  Read the rest of this entry »

The Arnone Report: Stay Cool, Eat Local and Other Great Stuff

Hello! I hope everyone is continuing to enjoy the summertime sunshine and warm weather!

As everyone is aware, we have experienced hotter than normal weather lately. Heat wave or not, I always advise those who plan on spending time outdoors in the heat to be prepared. Heat-related illnesses are preventable.

For those who are not able to be in a cool location, visit an air-conditioned mall or library to get relief from the hot weather. For those who are out in the heat, stay hydrated! It is important to drink water before thirst kicks in! While you’re keeping hydrated, don’t forget to take care of your pets, too! Lastly, don’t forget the sunscreen! Read the rest of this entry »
