Arnone Report: School’s Open, So Are the Beaches and Local Businesses

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend! A new school year is officially upon us and though it may look different than past school years, we still must be extra cautious when driving around our communities!

It’s always important – and especially now that children are back in school – that everyone obeys speed limits, stops for pedestrians and avoids distractions when driving. It’s also important that pedestrians and children walking to school use crosswalks or cross at intersections and wait for the walk signal before stepping into the road.

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

With Labor Day just around the corner, I want to remind everyone that Labor Day does not mean summer is over!

We are coordinating with our shore Mayors to see which towns will be extending their beach season with additional lifeguard coverage. Their plans will be published to our “Know Before You Go “page, which can be accessed on www.visitmonmouth.com once available.

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Hello! I hope everyone is continuing to enjoy the summertime sunshine and warm weather!

As everyone is aware, we have experienced hotter than normal weather lately. Heat wave or not, I always advise those who plan on spending time outdoors in the heat to be prepared. Heat-related illnesses are preventable.

I hope everyone had a great weekend here in Monmouth County!

I would like to provide an update of different projects and initiatives taking place throughout Monmouth County.

As you may be aware, a few weeks ago my fellow Freeholders and I announced that the County will allocate $10 million from the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act to supplement the Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV).The funding will be utilized to provide grants of up to $10,000 to businesses with up to 50 employees.

I hope everyone took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and visited our beaches and restaurants in Monmouth County!

With the holiday weekend approaching, I would like to remind everyone to remain diligent in adhering to the social distancing and safety guidelines implemented by the State.

Our restaurants and retailers – especially seasonal – depend on strong summer weekends to keep their staff employed and businesses open. It’s more important now than ever to support them while remaining safe.

Arnone Report, May 4, 2020: Parks, Beaches, Safety and $108M federal money

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend at one of our County parks or golf courses while continuing to practice strict social distancing!

I am glad that the authority over the decision of whether or not the Monmouth County parks are open was put back in the hands of the Freeholders. My fellow Freeholders and I have always felt, throughout this pandemic, that our parks are essential for the mental health and wellbeing of our residents. We vowed to open them as soon as we were able to, and that is exactly what we are doing.

Arnone Report: “We will get through this together”

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone

Given the circumstances that required us to celebrate differently this year, I still hope everyone had a happy Easter and Passover.

As our nation and state continue to deal with the effects and severity of COVID-19, I want to let you know that myself and the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders continue to work with local, state and federal officials to ensure our residents are receiving the information and support needed during this unprecedented time. We continue – and will continue – to advocate on behalf of our business community and its employees.

Arnone Report: Freeholder Director reports on great stuff happening in Monmouth County Government

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Happy February! I’m excited that our friend Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow signaling an early spring will be upon us.

I would like to update you on what I have been up to the last couple weeks.

My fellow Freeholders and I have been keeping busy working on the 2020 Monmouth County Budget. As I have said many times before, we do not start working on the budget in the early months of the year. Instead, my colleagues and I work throughout the entire year to efficiently run our departments while keeping costs down. Read the rest of this entry »

Arnone Report: Bridge Repairs, Recycling, Shared Services and other good stuff

By Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

I hope everyone is staying warm, happy and healthy this winter season. It sure has been a cold one the last few days but there is only a little more than 100 days until the unofficial start to the summer season!

In the meantime, I would like to provide an update of different projects and initiatives taking place throughout Monmouth County.

As of yesterday, Monday January 20th, the Ocean Avenue Shark River Bridge (W-43) has been closed for emergency repairs. During a routine inspection of the Bridge, deterioration of the steel pinions, which support the bridge when it opens and closes, was found. The contract for the project was awarded to Cornell & Company, Inc. of Woodbury, NJ in the amount of $494,000.

Happy December! I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving with their family and friends!

The month of November was very busy for me and I would like to share what I have been up to around the County.

You may recall, last year we invited all fourth-grade students in Monmouth County to participate in an essay contest to help name our very own Monmouth County Recycling Mascot. Last April, we announced the first, second and third place winners of the contest. First place was awarded to Kiernan Turbitt of St. Leo the Great School in Lincroft. Kiernan got to name our first-ever recycling mascot, Recycling Rocky!
