As we continue to celebrate November as Military Family Month, I would like to again thank all those who have served our country. It is important we remember every day the commitment and sacrifices made by these men and women. We’re the land of the free because of the brave. I observed Veteran’s Day at a touching ceremony in Manalapan.
November has been a very busy month for me and I would like to share what I have been up to around the County.
I’m excited to announce the Board of Chosen Freeholders invite all Monmouth County fourth-grade students to participate in an essay contest to help name our very own Monmouth County Recycling Mascot. Letters have been sent to principals throughout the County, asking them to encourage their teachers and students to participate. Our hope is that teachers can incorporate classroom instruction or activities involving recycling to encourage and inspire these students as they brainstorm ideas for the mascot’s name and adventure. Monmouth County law enforcement authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating Marc Zayas, 18 of Long Branch. Zayas is accused of shooting a 18-year old Neptune City man last Thursday afternoon, November 15, in the vicinity of in the vicinity of 63 Morris Avenue in Long Branch.
Zayas is at large as of 7:30 Sunday evening, according to Chris Swendeman, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
NFWL is a non-partisan 501c3, educational foundation for elected women on the state, county, and municipal levels. Its is to provide strategic resources to elected women for leadership development, exchange of diverse legislative ideas, and effective governance through conferences, state outreach, educational materials, professional and personal relationships, and networking. They encourage the election and/or appointment of women to public office. Membership is automatically granted to the over 5000 elected women throughout the United States on the state, county and municipal levels.
“Our message in New Jersey as Republicans has always been one of fiscal responsibility and civility,” said Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-21) in an interview with WNYC radio. “I want people to know that as a Republican in this state, I want to respect people and bring people together. And, if that message is not coming from Washington, it is going to come from me.”
Bramnick, like Kevin Bacon in Animal House, is preparing to take another beating and to politely ask for more.
The Middlesex County Department of Corrections released Luis Rodrigo Perez from custody last February, in defiance of an Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in December.

“Yet again, an ICE detainer was ignored and a dangerous criminal alien was released to the streets and is now charged with killing three people,” said ICE Acting Executive Associate Director Corey Price. “Had ICE’s detainer request in December 2017 been honored by Middlesex County Jail, Luis Rodrigo Perez would have been placed in deportation proceedings and likely sent home to his country – and three innocent people might be alive today. It is past time that localities realize the perils of dangerous sanctuary policies and resume their primary goal of protecting their residents.”
Perez was being held in the Middlesex County Jain on domestic violence charges. Unnamed Middlesex County officials are quoted by NJ.com blaming ICE for Perez’s release, explaining that their policy is not to hold illegals who haven’t killed or maimed anyone yet.

Brian Young, 52 of Freehold, was arrested on Friday and charged with second degree Sexual Assault and third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to an announcement by Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Young, the owner of the Big Frog Custom T-Shirts and More franchise on Route 9 in Howell, is accused of inappropriately touching a minor who was in the store on Wednesday, November 7.
Chris Swendeman, spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office, declined to reveal the age or gender of the minor making the accusation.
AASKI Technology, Inc. of Tinton Falls has been honored by the Department of Labor with the HIRE Vets Medallion for its leadership in recruiting, employing, and retaining America’s veterans, Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ4) announced on Thursday.
AASKI, a Woman and Minority Owned Business founded in 1997, was one of 239 companies recognized during the demonstration phase of the HIRE VETs program in 2018.
Chris Smith was reelected to his 20th term in the House of Representatives this evening, defeating Josh Welle by 56%-42 %, with VBM ballots in Ocean and Monmouth Counties still to be counted.
Bob Menendez has been declared the winner in his hotly contested reelection bid against former Celgene CEO Bob Hugin.
With 69% of the districts reporting, Menendez is leading Hugin 53.7 % to 43.%, according to the Associated Press. The AP, ABC News, NBCNews and NewJerseyGlobe all declared Menendez the winner before 9 pm.
