Water distribution update

Tom Stokes reports that New Jersey American Water Company is limiting bottled water distribution to one gallon per vehicle at Middletown High School North.  Once the gallon bottles are gone, they will be giving out smaller bottles, but not likely a full case per vehicle.

Stokes says that there are water tanks at North brought in by the National Guard.  Residents can bring their own containers to fill.   Best Market in Holmdel is selling water for $2.99 per case, according to Stokes.

All the gallon bottles are gone: they are now giving out one case of water per vehicle; people are urged to come back with empty containers and fill them up at the water buffaloes at the far end of HS North (by the field).

Traffic flow has been constant; there are two distribution lines which speeds up the process.

OEM volunteers, including RACES members (Amateur Radio (Ham) Operators), are assisting in the distribution effort.

Mayor Anthony Fiore and Township Committeewoman Stephanie Murray also assisted in the distribution while I was there.

I also saw some members of the volunteer Fire Companies assisting as well.

If you know of a disabled neighbor who cannot pick up some water, be a good neighbor and pick up a case for them. (CURRENTLY YOU MAY PICK UP ONLY ONE CASE PER VEHICLE)

Just got back again from HS North water distribution site.

Many volunteers are now there assisting in distribution. Many hands make light work.

ShopRite has delivered the cases of bottled water (I believe NJ American Water has paid for it).

The Monmouth County EMT Mass Casualty Bus Unit has arrived and is providing volunteers with a place to rest in their air-conditioned transport vehicle. Other municipalities have sent volunteers to assist.

The Police and the Fire Police from Middletown have set up proper traffic controls to make the drive through very orderly and safe.

If you can pick up a case of water for an elderly or disabled neighbor, please do so as this heat requires hydration. In this situation which affects us all, a helping hand is a good neighbor.

If you have containers which can safely store water (gallon jugs, etc), please bring them and you can fill up as many as you have from the water buffaloes.

It took a little while but I can truly state that this distribution is now going as smooth as clockwork. Very efficient!

I’d like to hear what excuse American Water has to say of their incompetence . Obviously the wooden foundation could never hold the weight of the water and pipe combined. now who pays? had best be their insurance company, what happened to the insurance money to repair from Irene? Don’t make us pay for AW’ ignorance

    Who pays?

It better be either or (both) the insurance companies and the stockholders; definitely not the ratepayers.

Management has a lot of explaining to do.

This will cost the various municipalities extra expenses in police, gasoline, etc. Fortunately a lot of unpaid volunteers turned out.

Four truckloads of water were delivered, with several pallets left – they will remain open at HS North until 10 PM or until the water runs out.

I was informed another four truckloads will be delivered tomorrow (Sunday) with distribution set to begin at 10 AM.
