Operation Take Back New Jersey

This Saturday, September 25th between 10a.m. and 2 p.m. the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is launching Operation Take Back New Jersey. The purpose of this initiative is to provide a safe and legal method for the citizens of New Jersey to dispose of their unwanted, unused, and expired medicines.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2008, 1.9 million youth age 12 to 17 abused prescription drugs. In fact, each day an average of 2,000 teenagers age 12 to 17 used a prescription drug without a doctor’s guidance for the first time. Unfortunately, most teenagers gain access of prescription pain medication from friends and relatives. That is why it is so important to dispose of any unwanted or unused medicines that you may have.

Operation Take Back New Jersey is an anonymous program. Prescription and over the counter solid dosage medications, i.e. tablets and capsules will be accepted.

    How silly; this is the type of non-sense, feel-good, do-nothing political garbage that we Republicans should be mad about when we read the story.

    Those with illegal drugs will hang on to them, abuse them, sell them, etc. those slightly more responsible will just continue to just leave the unused prescription drugs in the medicine cabinet, expired, “just in case” and others will continue to toss the unused portions of their prescription drugs in the trash or flush them down the toilet – which I suppose one could argue pollutes the environment but the claim here seems to be to address abuse – which this does not.

    Such a waste, but then it does “feel-good” and I’m sure whatever the program costs can be ignored since it sounds good in the headlines and on political literature.

    Apparently you are unaware and misinformed about ME. I am the Executive Director of a nonprofit called Prevention First that teaches our youth and families about the dangers of substance abuse. Please note – this program – Operation Take Back – had NOTHING to do with my position in the Legislature. Sorry that you are confused.

    Dear Mrs. Angelini,
    Apparently you are unaware and misinformed about ME, but this comment isn’t about ME and my first comment wasn’t about YOU, but since you’re commenting in an effort to get some kind of credit for your efforts, but not as an Assemblywoman… I would really appreciate it if you can defend the program, which is what I attacked, and explain exactly how you think this somehow does anything good and can show some real results instead of just suggesting I don’t know who ASSEMBLYWOMAN Mary Pat Angelini is and ignoring that I’ve called the program a waste.

    BTW – the 75% of funding for Prevention First – $1.3million – that comes from grants – are those Government grants, ie, tax payer dollars? I mean, I’m only asking because it really seems like this particular Operation is a waste and I’d really have preferred to see some honest and reasonable explanation from the Executive Director of exactly how this program is supposed to get irresponsible parents to somehow decide to be responsible all of a sudden rather than just a statement that I’m confused or misinformed and a feeling that maybe my money has been wasted, if indeed those are government grants or if indeed the DEA, funded by taxpayers, is spending money on the Operation.

    I dunno, maybe I’ll just write a letter to MY ASSEMBLYWOMAN, Mrs. Mary Pat Angelini, who seems to have forgotten to mail me any campaign info last election cycle, and ask her if she’s aware of this program and can provide her constituents with some information regarding the effectiveness of the program and if any taxpayer money has been used to fund this waste.

    Angelini takes out $100 grand salary from her non profit Pre. First. And yes we the tax payers pay for a large part of this nonsense. We also pay her $50 grand as an Assemblywomen. This has to be a conflict of interest!

    Assemblywoman Angelini is a class act and a great public servant. She deserves better than the grenades you are throwing at her. It matters not whether she submitted this as the Ex.Dir. of Prevention First or as an Assemblywoman. This type of program, and the possible prevention of future drug abuse, comes within both job descriptions.
