Hazlet-Vincent Solomeno, 30, announced his candidacy for Monmouth County Surrogate this morning, promising to transform the constitutional position that is judicial in nature, to one of advocacy for “the most vulnerable among us.”

Currently a Platoon Training at the National Guard Officer Training School in Sea Girt, Solomeno returned from a one year deployment in as a military planner and manager in Operation Freedom last October.

Solomeno was the Command Historian of the New Jersey National Guard from November of 2010 through until his deployment.

From 2008 through 2010, Solomeno held Public Affairs and Logistics positions in the National Guard.

He was a Truman Summer Fellow in Congressman Frank Pallone’s office in 2007, after his graduation from the University of Scranton, and he received a Masters Degree in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam where is was a Fulbright Fellow in 2008.

“I’ve served my country, I’ve served my state, and with your help, I’d like to serve our county,” Solomeno said in a video announcing his candidacy,”…I will be a innovative an active Surrogate.”

Should he be nominated by the Monmouth County Democratic Committee and win the primary in June, Solomeno is likely to face Surrogate Rosemarie Peters in the general election in June.  Peters is expected to be nominated for her third term as Surrogate by the Monmouth County Republicans.

  1. I thought said at 8:47 pm on January 5th, 2016:

that only the sheriff and two freeholders are up, in 2016: it is unusual for two Constitutional officers to be up in the same year- surrogate is a 5 -year term, sheriff is a three- maybe they are both up, this time, but if so,that makes 2016 even tougher for the Monmouth GOP,in a presidential year! Wow- that means president, Cong. Smith, then need somebody decent against Pallone, (not a throwaway,)then sheriff, surrogate, and 2 freeholders, plus your locals,if any- some long ballot- hope everybody is willing to pony up some dough, and drag out their voters, this cycle,or we could have another ’15 district 11 mess!..
