Monmouth Poll: Americans Don’t Trust Iran On Nuke Deal

khameneiAmericans do not trust Iran to live up to any nuclear agreement negotiated with the Obama Administration, according to a Monmouth University Poll released this morning.  The poll was conducted July 9-12, before the final agreement was announced.

55% of registered voters polled by Monmouth said they did not trust Iran at all. 35% said they trusted them a little. 5% said they trusted Iran a lot.

Democrats have more faith in Iran than do their Republican and Independent neighbors.  Only 45% of Democrats said they don’t trust Iran at all. 45% said they trusted them a little 7% trust them a lot.  71% of Republicans don’t trust Iran at all. 55% of Independents don’t trust them at all.

“The pact with Iran faces an uncertain future in Congress.  A major sticking point with the American public is a sense that Tehran really can’t be trusted to keep its part of the bargain,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, NJ.

Murray’s poll found that nationwide voters narrowly approve of President Barack Obama’s job performance, 47%-46%.  This is a slight improvement in the President’s standing since a June poll rated his performance negatively with only 44% approving and 46% disapproving.

Congress continues to have dismal approval ratings.  Only 18% approve of the job that Congress is doing while 69% disapprove. Congress’s approval ratings have improved 11% since Republicans were elected to take control of the Senate.  In a July 2014 Monmouth Poll, the last one that rated Congressional approval before the 2014 election when the GOP captured the upper house, only 14% approved and 76% disapproved.

28% of Americans think that the country is headed in the right direction. 63% think the country is on the wrong track.  These right direction/wrong track numbers represent a 5 point positive swing since Monmouth’s June poll when 23% felt we were headed in the right direction and 68% felt we were on the wrong track.

    Why bomb shelters? Won’t be much left to dither over after N. Koreans and Iranians are finished.

    @Sancho

    Iranian missiles have the capacity to hit the East Coast…..unless you have a bunker in Arizona, you may need one here to ride out their last gasp.

    The stock value of survival shelter builders will rise for smart investors!

    Never fear. The taxpayers best friend Bob Menendez is proposing legislation to provide tax credits for people to build backyard bomb shelters, at the same time he’ll invest in companies that manufacture materials for making bomb shelters. He’ll use the profits to pay for his legal defense, and when the bombs start falling he’ll fly off to Santo Domingo and move in with his pal, Sal Melgen.
