Eatontown fire claims 69 year old woman

Brenda Taylor, 69, died on Monday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in an accidental fire in her Eatontown apartment during the early morning hours of Friday, April 10, according to a statement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

Gramiccioni said that the fire at the Garrison Apartments, 3 Throckmorton Ave, has been ruled accidental following a joint investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office, Eatontown Police Department, Eatontown Fire Bureau, Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire originated in the electrical baseboard heater of the victim’s bedroom.

Taylor was unresponsive when she was located by firefighters in her apartment. She was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with serious burns and later transferred to the Burn Center at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston where she succumbed to her injuries.

Nine people in total were injured as a result of the fire, including the 69-year-old victim. Seven people, including two Eatontown firefighters, were treated for smoke inhalation and later released from Monmouth Medical Center. Another woman, a 78-year-old resident of the apartment complex was transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank for treatment after complaining of chest pains. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.
