   I suspect if he approached a police officer and told him the circumstances, they would have figured something out. If he told told the police that his only choice might have been to rob again, something would have been done.

   I am sure that there are churches and places he could turn to for a meal.

   But I also think that there should have been some better arrangements made for him when he left prison, to make sure he got somewhere and had a place to stay and eat, and that those deeper questions should have been asked by the prison as well as Mr. Miller before he left there.

   First question that needs to be asked is who booked the bus tickets.

   Second question is why couldn’t the parole officer reached out by phone to help him find some solution.

   Is it that Mr. Miller was so desperate, that he chose three square meals paid for by taxpayers? I do read that long term institutionalization leads to a feeling that you can not cope on the outside.

   Or, is it that Mr. Miller just felt comfortable with those three squares paid for by taxpayers.

   In any case, the system failed in several ways. IMHO
