In LD 13, Arnone endorses Flynn for Assembly. Burry endorses DiMaso
In the race for the Monmouth GOP endorsement for contested Assembly seat in the 13th Legislative District, Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone endorsed Vicky Flynn, the president of the Holmdel Board of Education and Commissioner Lillian Burry endorsed Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso for reelection.
Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger is unchallenged for reelection. Both DiMaso and Flynn have embraced Scharfenberger as a running mate and used his photo in campaign materials.
“Vicky Flynn is exactly the right kind of leader we need fighting for us along side Gerry Scharfenberger in Trenton,” Arnone said in a postcard mailed to LD 13 Republican County Committee members. “I know that Vicky will dig-in and do the hard work at the Statehouse that we need, She will be a tremendous partner for us on the County Board of Commissioners and here at home. Vicky will be a tireless campaigner for the party and our local candidates.”
“During the time Serena and I spent together on the board, Serena was a fierce advocate for fiscal conservatism helping to reduce the budget.” Burry said in a press release from the DiMaso campaign. “Clearly, she has carried those same principles to the Legislature. While she is missed greatly on the Freeholder/Commissioner Board, she is clearly an asset to state government.”
Commissioner Burry stated; “Serena has worked tirelessly for all the people of LD 13. She is a proven leader with a solid conservative legislative record. Whether it be fighting for legislation protecting restaurants from the illogical edicts of Governor Murphy or sponsoring and passing legislation to promote student safety. As a Member of the Joint Committee on Public Schools, Serena worked to ensure that our schools can open and allow for our students to return safely.” “I proudly endorse Assemblywoman DiMaso who has been a strong voice for our families and businesses and that I strongly encourage the voters of LD 13 to return Assemblywoman DiMaso to the Assembly”
The Monmouth GOP endorsement for the Assembly seat will be decided during a virtual County Committee convention on Thursday, March 18.
LD 13 is comprised of Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Fair Haven, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Keyport, Little Silver, Marlboro, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Rumson, Sea Bright, and Union Beach.
two of the last NJ GOP counties are splitting.. Ocean, with Gilmore returning to the fray, now Monmouth, taking out an incumbent who wins.. do not see how this is either helpful or strengthening, this gubernatorial year.. Bad enough all involvement/ enthusiasm/interest are down from covid disasters, now this .. ps: where are the rules for said “zoom convention,” one week away? Appearing rather organizationally slipshod/disjointed, no?…
It’s a politically stupid idea to bring a local party split onto the county level.
Joe DiBella would undoubtedly have been a better candidate/freeholder than Andrew Lucas (he certainly wouldn’t have gotten jammed up in the land deal fiasco that Lucas did), but people were seriously concerned that the party split going on in Howell at the time would explode onto the county level and deep-six the entire GOP ticket. As it was, Lucas lost, but Rosemarie Peters was elected Surrogate and Anna Little was elected Freeholder.
Infighting helped lose Bergen County; more recently Burlington and Somerset turned blue (possibly indelibly so), and it was touch n go in Morris for a while last year. Ocean is becoming an episode of “The Gilmore Boys”.
Legislative retirements (Kean Jr, Bateman, Brown, probably others), and the passing of Sen. Cardinale have created competition in the Party that has the Democrats salivating like Pavlov’s dogs. A fight in LD 13 will do the same thing, possibly prompting someone like Jon Hornik or John D’Amico to consider the 13th winnable.
This is not the time for party leaders to be in touch with their Inner Niemann.
Serena has to go. The Chairman will humble her greatly if she plans on running off the line.
The Chairman is not an honorable man. What he and his minions did to George Newberry in Wall was a disgrace. There is now a clear 3-2 divide on the all republican Wall Township Committee (and the divide only exists because the 3 want it to).
sounds like another W for the Chair!
there’s a field call: “ unnecessary roughness..”
