New Jersey Globe Announces Congressional Debates

Monmouth County Congressional Races Deemed Uncompetitive

New Jersey Globe will be host debates in congressional races for districts 3, 5, 7 and 11, Editor David Wildstein announced this morning.

The hour long debates will be live streamed on facebook and youtube on Sunday nights, 9 p.m. The videos will remain on the platforms for voters to view as they choose their representatives in the 117th Congress.

Wildstein will moderate the debates.

The schedule is as follows:

* September 13 – candidates in the 7th district: Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski and Republican Thomas H. Kean, Jr., the minority leader of the New Jersey Senate.

            * October 4 – candidates in the 3rd district: Democratic Rep. Andy Kim and Republican David Richter, a businessman.

            * October 11 – candidates in the 11th district: Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican Rosemary Becchi, a former tax counsel to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.

            * October 25 – candidates in the 5th district: Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer and Republican Frank Pallotta, a businessman and former investment banker.

The Globe deemed the races in the 4th and 6th districts where Republican Congressman Chris Smith and Democrat Congressman Frank Pallone serve in the 116th Congress representing Monmouth County as uncompetitive.

“In order to focus on the most competitive House races in the state, The New Jersey Globe will not extend debate invitations to candidates running in districts 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12,” the Globe’s announcement said.

The Globe has yet to get responses from Democrat Amy Kennedy and Republican Congressman Jeff VanDrew in the 2nd congressional district.
