Murphy: Jersey Girls still do not pump gas!
PLEASE NOTE: We have no plans to turn our gas stations into self-serve at this time.
Please DO NOT pump your own gas.

Governor Phil Murphy tweeted this afternoon that New Jersey currently has no plans to allow self-service gas stations.
“Please DO NOT pump your own gas,” the governor said.
Under the 1949 Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act, pumping your own gas in New Jersey is unlawful. The statute, N.J.S.A. 34:3A:10, imposes penalties for violating the act from $50 to $250 fines for the first offense, and not to exceed $500 for each subsequent offense thereafter.
The Retail Gasoline Lobby pushed for the 1949 law, but now the industry would rather go self service. However, the last time there was a movement to change the law, their was a big public push back and the legislation went nowhere.
