2 Weekends of Tri-State Theatre Festival
2 WONDERFUL WEEKENDS OF ONE-ACTS
South Street Players, now celebrating 32 years in Central Jersey,
is kicking off its 2014-15 season with the 4th annual installment of
an audience favorite, The Tri-State Theatre Festival. However,
that’s not all. This year SSP is expanding the event, adding a
SECOND WEEKEND of Halloween-inspired short plays to the mix.
The Tri-State Theatre Festival: Halloween Edition will present its
own wicked weekend of weird, way out and wacky tales, just in time
for Trick-or-Treat season. Both events feature original works by local
playwrights from NJ, NY and PA.
2 Different Events — Each Event is a Must See!!!
From October 17-19, 2014, SSP will showcase an eclectic line-up of 8
original short comedies and dramas that were handpicked from a pool
of nearly 300 submissions. The following weekend, October 24-26, SSP
will push its festival into the “outer limits” by presenting 9
Halloween-inspired short plays that run the gamut from spooky to surreal to sidesplitting.
“If you haven’t been to our festival before, we really encourage you to join
us for both weekends. We present these shorts in a ‘black box’ setting,
employing minimal props, and set pieces. Our focus is in on the directing,
acting and, most importantly, the writing. It’s an amazing thing being part of
a team breathing life into original plays, some of which have never been
performed in front of an audience. It really is a unique experience seeing
theatre done in this raw and organic format. And our audiences love it.
They’ve helped us build this event from a one-off production to an annual
tradition that we all look forward to each season,” says Rob Sullivan, TSTF Producer.
“The festival offers a unique forum for local artists to collaborate as well.
Where else in NJ, over the course of 2 weekends, can an audience see
something brought to you by 16 writers, 13 directors and over 35
talented actors?” Sullivan asks.
In addition to SSPs artistic goals, both events also serve as fundraisers,
with all proceeds going to help the theatre group maintain its commitment
to producing high-quality, extremely entertaining theatrical experiences
for the upcoming season…and beyond. Monmouth and Ocean County
communities are encouraged to come support local playwrights,
local artists, and South Street Players!
The festivals will take place at Wesley Hall in Spring Lake, NJ.
Ticket prices are: $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and children under 12.
