“Unlike” News12

By Art Gallagher

News12News12 New Jersey has effectively fired reporter Sean Bergin for telling the truth.

In a report about Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago’s murder, Bergin went off script and closed the segment by saying, “The underlying cause of all of this, of course: Young black men growing up without fathers. Unfortunately, no one in the news media has the courage to touch that subject.”

News12 executives responded by proving Bergin’s point about the spineless media. They suspended him and then offered him a one day a week job, for $300 per week, covering fluff like broken fire hydrants or other inane subjects.  They covered their asses by saying the discipline was for breaking company policy.  Bergin turned them down and quit.

Bergin deserved a commendation for telling the truth, not a demotion which was an effective firing. But he has garnered national attention for his actions which will probably (hopefully) result in a better job for him.  He’d be foolish to go back to News12 even if they offered him his job back.

News12 deserves a boycott and phone calls to their advertisers.  If you a viewer of News12 or reader of their website and are so inclined, go for it if you are so inclined.

But that is not what I am calling for.   Over the years I’ve had people call for boycotts to MMM, which resulted in increased traffic.  I’ve had advertisers harassed, which I think is bullshit since the increased traffic made their ads more effective.  I lost some advertisers and gained others as a result of those actions.

Instead, as a show of support for Bergin and to send a message to News12, I’m calling for you to do something you can do right now and be done with it.  If you have “Liked” News12 on facebook, click here and “Unlike” them.  If you follow them on twitter, click here and unfollow them.  If you haven’t liked or followed them, share this post. Changes are some of your friends do.  You can also call 732-346-3200 and tell them what you think of how they treated Bergin.

Any of my readers, political or media figures, who are invited onto News12’s Power and Politics or any other show, I challenge to to use your airtime to criticize  News12 management for how they treated Bergin for telling the truth.

See stupid Kathy Baratta? This is why people don’t use their real names to share their opinions. They risk losing their jobs and being unable to find another job.

But you lefties don’t need jobs because your rich uncle in Washington will mail you a check every month.

The guy deserved a raise for telling the truth, instead they shove him out the door.

His job is to report the news NOT editorialize. A reporter’s job is to report, not interpret. I did this for a living. I know of whence I speak.

There was a golden age when news people reported the news rather than offer their opinions. Those old enough to have watched Huntley-Brinkley, Howard K. Smith, et al, know what I’m talking about. I defy anyone to tell me their political affiliation/beliefs. You can’t because we didn’t know or even want to know. We just wanted the facts. We were all better off then.

As for this performer’s first amendment rights being violated. Newsflash! They’re not.

The first amendment simply means THE GOVERNMENT shall make no law abridging free speech. A private employer is not the government and has every right to hold an employee to a certain standard. You violate that standard and they have every right to toss you out on your keister. Especially when there’s a policy manual spelling it all out.

Wrong again KB, it wasn’t his opinion, he stated a fact. I will never again watch this low budget news channel. I’ve had it with the politically correct left wing media covering up for every “protected” group in the country. These hack journalists would rather the country implode than deviate from their politically correct, liberal fantasy script. This is the same idiocy that called the Fort Hood shooting “workplace violence” rather than a terrorist attack, or Trayvon Martin, a violent punk who was shot while smashing a guy’s head into the concrete, an innocent “youth.”. They can only keep this crap up for so long. Anyone with half a brain knows out of wedlock births and absentee fathers are epidemic in the black community. Thank God for patriots like Ben Carson and Allen West who aren’t afraid to tell the truth.

After reading some of the comments here by the “right” people, I am very glad to be called a “leftie”.

By all means, let us keep spewing spite and hate from that bully pulpit as it is sure to undo any advances we have made toward racial harmony.

Makes me proud to be an American….oh yeah!!!

  10. Proud Republican said at 6:44 pm on July 18th, 2014:

@lucille kane – here’s a response to your snide, superior post. You are right in one respect, my post will be filled with hate. I hate the way liberal democrat policies have enslaved blacks in this country. I hate the way democrats refuse to acknowledge the REAL problems facing the black community. I hate the way democrats and their policies have destroyed once great cities like Detroit, Newark, Paterson, Oakland, etc. I hatebthe way democrats encourage out of wedlock births and teenage pregnancy to always have a new crop of addicts for their initiative killing programs. I hate the disdain the democrats have for blacks that says they can buy their vote by offering them free stuff. I hate the way democrats attack great Americans like Ben Carson, Allen West, Mia Love, etc because they don’t tow the democrat party line of victimization. I could go on but I think you get the picture.

  11. Luclle Kane said at 11:51 am on July 19th, 2014:

I feel sorry for you that only hatred can make you feel superior. Your expressions of hate are really verbal violence and it is fact that we all hate that which we fear.

Lighten up, heed the immortal words of Maya Angelou: “Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet”

    Have a good life.

  12. Proud Republican said at 12:03 pm on July 19th, 2014:

Way to fiddle while Rone burns. You liberals get caught up in semantic nonsense so you don’t have to face the cold hard facts of life. Rather than refute anything I said, you do what all liberals do – drag out a quote from an overrated “poet” and smugly think you did something to show your support for blacks. In the meantime, poverty, crime, drug abuse, out of wedlock births, absentee fathers, the destruction of the black family continues unabated because of liberal policies and the leftist answer to it all? Spout rhetoric and cry racism.

  13. Bill said at 2:02 pm on July 19th, 2014:

@ Proud What have your Republicans done on the issues you are talking about ? I can tell you NOTHING

  14. Proud Republican said at 8:53 pm on July 19th, 2014:

That’s bullcrap BIll, everything in the Republican platform is designed to give opportunity to blacks, and everyone else for that matter to succeed and prosper as far as their talents and desires will take them. The Republican defense of the traditional family is designed to do exactly the opposite of what democrats have successfully done to blacks, which is to destroy the nuclear family in the black community. You see, you liberal democrats institute policies which are destroying the fabric of our society bit by bit, and then have the nerve to point the finger at republicans for not doing enough to stop it. Are you proud of the job that democrats have done in Detroit and Camden?

  15. Bill said at 12:21 pm on July 20th, 2014:

Please Proud stop with the The Republicans are saints and the Democrats are evil.Thats maybe what you believe and that’s ok but it is not true.As a Democrat I believe that everyone is equal and a person has the right to marry the person they love. And no I am not proud more should should be done to help the inner city.
