Lonegan Fires Shaftan
GOP nominee Steve Lonegan for U.S. Senate fired his long time strategist and pollster, Rick Shaftan, tonight over comments Shaftan made to Talking Points Memo.
“Mr. Shaftan’s comments are not reflective of my views or that of my campaign,” Lonegan said, “His comments are distasteful and offensive, and his contract as a vendor for my campaign will be terminated immediately.”
Shaftan commented on MMM’s initial story about his conduct, “I apologize to Steve Lonegan and his supporters if any statements I have made have hurt his candidacy and do not want these comments or my presence in this campaign to serve as a distraction to his efforts to win this election and save our nation from the radical left-wing policies of Barack Obama and Cory Booker.”
KNEW that he is a loose cannonball rolling around on the deck. It is a wonder he didn’t sink the ship earlier.
But that’s what happens when people get so desperate that they will do anything and say anything
[…] UPDATE: LONEGAN FIRES SHAFTAN […]
Between Lonegan’s performance in the debate and Shaftan’s comments, those cannonballs were being fired from the inside of the ship, thru the bottom of the hull below the waterline.
And if you think it cant get any worse, stay turned. Palin brings her brand of crazy to NJ this weekend!!!
Is anyone else tired of Bob English’s limpwristed, wimpy liberal drivel? Here’s a newsflash for you Bobby boy. You liberals like to throw around the words “extreme” and “crazy” when talking about conservatives or the Tea Party. To liberals, stopping the government from confiscating our hard earned money through excessive taxation, keeping the debt from crushing our kids and grandkids, protecting our borders, following our Constitution, and so on, is “crazy and extreme.”. So Bob, you want crazy and extreme? How about dismantling the most successful, prosperous nation ever to grace the planet and replacing it with some second rate, socialist cesspool? How about sanitizing our military and intelligence operations so as not to offend terrorists? How about encouraging and guiding people into government dependency? There’s your crazy and extreme.
@Proud….I would suggest that there are several hundred former terrorist leaders that spend their retirement days as worm or fish food that would take issue with your statement that the US military and intelligence opperations have been sanitized.
Nah, nah, nah – you’re not getting off that easy. Here are some facts to back up what I said. The CIA and military have been ordered to remove terms like jihad, Islamicist, terrorist, etc. From all manuals. That lunatic Hassan who murdered all those soldiers at Ft. Hood was consistently promoted simply because no one wanted to offend a Muslim even though he was a horrendous doctor and individual. Our community organizer-in-chief has repeatedly derided our military’s interrogation techniques which ended up putting the lives of every soldier in danger. I could go on, but
Hit send too soon. Should have said – but that is enough to show how politically correct and weakened our military has become at the hands of this disaster in the White House. Btw, care to respond to the rest of my post? Or do you agree with my other points?
Back to the Shaftan removal…
It’s all schtick.
Shaftan completed his job. There is not much more that he needed to do. In his genius, he got a few more free blips in the press rather than quietly disappear after the election.
Considering that he had to work with the Peoples Republic, he did a fantastic job.
He will be back next year when Lonegan runs in the Presdential primary.
@While the words “extreme” and “crazy” do describe some far right political views, I should note that I certainly understand that there are many people that identify with the TP that are sincere and concerned about where they think the country is going and do not buy into all of the craziness spewed by some elements of the TP.
As for excessive taxation…the Obama tax structure is basically the Bush tax structure with the exception of a slight change in the top rate which should have never been lowered in the first place as part of the Bush tax cuts since the country was getting involved in two unpaid for wars. If anything, taxes needed to be increased to pay for the wars.
Debt…I basically agree with you that the country needs to get back to a balanced budget like we had in the late 1990’s. That can not happen in one year though. Yearly deficit is rapidly declining (still too large) and it is about 1/2 of what it was in 2009 during the recession. Key thing is to keep growing the economy which is why govt shutdowns and screwing around with possible defaut is foolish. Note that Obama and the D’s have already indicated they are in favor of entitlement reform. There also needs to be something done on the revenue side especially in closing tax loopholes. There should be enough common ground for both sides to get something done especially if the R’s ignore Ted Cruz and agree to House/Senate joint conference committee hearings to reconicle budgets that each body passed.
“He will be back next year when Lonegan runs in the Presdential primary.”
Lonegan is becoming the political equivalent of Jason Voorhees.
I didn’t see his comments but this doesn’t surprise me.
I tried on a few Internet threads to prod this guy away from snarky Internet fights with people, which I find to be well below the position of a campaign strategist in a state-wide race.
He may be a talented fellow but he needs to keep that sort of thing in check.
Shaftan is a creepy old loon obsessed with Lonegan. I think he is gay.
