Red Bank Elks Honoring Patriots Throughout September
Americanism and patriotism are cornerstones of the Elks organization. And in September the Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 invites our community to 3 events that support and share in those commitments.
Fundraiser for the NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and Museum
The Red Bank Lodge, in conjunction with other area Elks lodges, will be having a family-friendly fundraiser on Saturday, September 21st, to support the very moving and educational NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and Museum in Holmdel.
The memorial and museum recognize and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the NJ Vietnam veterans. From the marble wall surrounding the memorial that includes the 1,562 names of the NJ servicemen who did not make it home, to the US War Dog memorial, there is much to see that honors our heroes.
There will be tours of the memorial and museum, speakers, food, and 3 local live bands playing, Shore Blue, Soul Mojo, and Danny White.
The Elks Fundraiser will be at the Memorial’s parking lot from 12-6pm, with the last guided tour around 4pm. There is a requested $20 donation for adults—children and teenagers are free. So bring the family, take a tour, listen to some music, and most importantly, thank and support the veterans!
If you cannot make the event, but still would like to donate to the fundraiser, please visit redbankelks.org to contribute securely online.
The NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and Museum is located at exit 116 off the Garden State Parkway, 1 Memorial Lane in Holmdel at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
First Responders Appreciation Day and BBQ
Whether paid or volunteer, our local first responders put others first, and risk their lives everyday. To show thanks, the Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 is having a BBQ at the Lodge on Saturday September 28th from 6-9pm. Free food, beer and wine to all Red Bank area first responders (including Little Silver, Shrewsbury, Fair Haven, etc.). Cash bar for others.
The lodge is located at 40 West Front Street, and the lodge’s patio and backyard have beautiful views of Navesink River. Note the rain date will be Sunday, September 29th.
NJ Run for the Fallen: One Mile – One Marker – One Hero
On the last weekend of September, the annual NJ Run for the Fallen will be undertaken, starting in Cape May and ending in Holmdel. Over 3 days and over 180 miles, a dedicated team of active-duty military personnel will run 1 mile for every service member killed during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On Sunday September 29th, the Red Bank Elks Lodge will be gathering at the Hero Markers (mile indicators) in the Shrewsbury area to stand with the families of the fallen service member, to whom the mile is dedicated. And at each Hero Marker there will be a moment of reflection and honoring of the hero with their family and friends.
The run will end that Sunday afternoon at the NJ Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Holmdel (at the PNC Bank Arts Center), where a moving ceremony will be held.
Please visit the NJ Run for the Fallen website, www.njrunforthefallen.org, for up-to-date route maps and anticipated mile arrival times throughout the weekend, so you can stand with the families of the fallen, honoring and remembering the NJ soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who sacrificed their lives for us.
The website also includes information on the runners and other ways you can support this organization.
