Christie talks taxes in LBI

Governor Chris Christie took his Endless Summer tax relief tour to Long Beach Island this afternoon.

About half way through this APP video the governor addresses municipal consolidation incentives as a method the state is providing to reduce property taxes.  Chrisite is laugh out loud funny in mimicking public opposition to consoldiations.

So Christie’s answer to property tax control and reduction is to consolidate municipal government which he admits will be resisted and take long enough for him to be practicing politics somwwhere else other than New Jersey. Does he offer anything that might happen over the next one to three years?

He is doing everything he can to avoid dealing with his campaign promises and statements, like the one quoted by Joshua Hine on July 26 that Christie made about Corizine. “Candidate Christie said: ‘Look unemployment is up again this month. I don’t know how when unemployment continues to go up that you can say that’s a success. That shows the low standards the govenor has set for economic success in the state.'”

Some of the big $$$ on future savings have to come from more shared services and municipal consolidation. That should be an issue that is discussed in every local election with candidates taking a position on what they will or will not pursue.

I am very glad that the Governor is not going to force consolidations to do so would be undemocratic and he is right it is a loser from a policy and political standpoint to force it.

For the record I do not complain about my property taxes. I think I get a good deal for for the services I recieve.
