Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson will not seek a new term
Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson announced that he will not seek a second four year term next May, according to the Asbury Park Sun.
In a letter posted on his website, Johnson thanked Asbury Park residents for the opportunity of serving for the last 13 years as city’s Urban Enterprise Zone, councilman and mayor.
Asbury Park elects all five members of its governing body every four years in non-partisan elections that take place in May. The city has a referendum to study a change in its form of government on the ballot this November.
Warmest regards and best wishes to my friend Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson, who announced today he will not seek re-election next year. Ed has been a true public servant who has had an integral role Asbury Park’s revitalization for the past 13 years.
When I hear people from elsewhere still say, “Oh, Asbury Park…I hear it’s coming back” (and I have to correct them that it already HAS ‘come back’), my thoughts always turn to Ed and the diverse coalition of dedicated residents that have guided this city to this exciting and incredible time.
With his trademark calm disposition and the warmest smile this side of the Asbury Park sun, Ed was one of the first people to welcome me and my wife to AP when we moved here 6 years ago. We will always be grateful for his tireless optimism and conviction that Asbury Park’s best days are still ahead.
