My heart is broken for both Christine and our party. What went on tonight, starting with Lillian Burry’s nomination was pure BULL SHIT and I will stay around long enough to make sure she is replaced.
She starts off criticizing the Hanlon camp, Bennett criticizes the Hanlon camp and yet when Christine is rightly deserving of the opportunity to respond, the Bennett camp boos her.
This is what you have elected as chair. The Democrats are laughing with glee already
And the Tea Party people, led by that nut Anna Little; with their pranks? May she loose by 40 points.
Come together? No way. I’ve had it with the good old boys network.
Ed Stominski, Frank Self, Geri Popkin, Lillian Burry …the old club that gave us Operation Bid Rig is back….
Barbara Gonzalez, of the Tea Party, was in attendance and loudly disrupting the meeting … seemed to be pleased that Bennett won (endorsed by their precious Anna Little). Is she a GOP committeewoman?
The GOP is split right down the middle – looks like Lillian Burry will get another chance to sink John Curley.
by the BSTP. The leader and another female member were shouting and acting classless the whole time. They are an embarrassment to the Tea Party and to the Republican Party. When you carry on like buffoonish white trash, you do not attract support for the movement, the party, or your already substandard candidate. Plus they are hypocrites. They do nothing but bash the Republican party and then feel they have the right to dictate who should be chair. Maybe if they’re lucky, the editorials scorching Bennett will mention them – after all, they live to get their names mentioned by the media.
It was disappointing that Hanlon’s supporters were respectfully silent while Bennett spoke, but his supporters hissed & cat-called while she was speaking. The vote was the vote, but the behavior reminds us of the dark side of politics. I truly hope that Chairman Bennett really believes & follows through about us “coming together” now!
Yes this was a close election. There is a lesson for all Republican candidates…make your difference in ideology to that of your opponent clear and concise.
What a disaster!! Christine was the perfect candidate. I feel sorry for her. As soon as Bennett got in, the campaign became dirty because when you wallow in the mud with pigs you get mud on you. Let’s see who he appoints to his executive committee. Doesn’t was all “yes men”. Isn’t that a sexist statement? The governor can’t be happy tonight. Why wasn’t Kyrillos there to vote for Christine who he endorsed? Amy Handlin was. So much went wrong tonight for the Monmouth GOP.
Bennett should have gotten up and kissed Hanlon’s ass before begging her to help him raise funds and run great events, (which is really the chair’s job). Hoo-boy is the Monmouth GOP in trouble.
Bennett is the poster boy of what was totally wrong with the GOP for the dark years. How Lillian Burry can get up and stand by him amazes me. She constantly is alligning herself with people who keep getting caught up in scandles and swindling the public for the benefit of themselves. I have volunteered for many campaigns throughout the last few years and I honestly can say I have never seen John Bennett at ANY of the phone banks or envelope stuffings or lawn sign events. That makes me think maybe he is too good for us regular people. I did not support him for the chair and he will not be MY chairmen for the next two years. In fact I may do everything in my power to make him look bad. He is the posterboy for making the GOP look bad. Way to spoon feed the Democratic party – Thanks for nothing Monmouth County Committee Members
All those new Committee people just got a taste of intra party politics. Believe me when I tell you many of them were aghast at the rudeness of some of the ancient ones. They are not familiar with all the old laundry and loyalties of the past. I just hope they didn’t so turned off to the f#$% this sh#t I don’t get it or feel like they are out of the loop. They want to see this party move forward to defeat dems.
I cannot say that I am not very disappointed by tonight’s results. I have worked closely with Chrisitne Hanlon over the past few years and fully supported her effort to get elected as our Chair. I’ve already stated why I thought she was the better choice and will not continue an argument that is already over. She is a class act and displayed that tonight.
Losing by three votes hurts, I don’t care who you are. And I’m not just talking about Christine, I’m talking about those of us who worked to get her elected. Such is the nature of elections. I’ll let myself be pissed about the results for about a day and then I’ll move on. Such is the nature of governing after elections.
I congratulate John Bennett on his victory tonight. As the new Ocean Township Chairman, I will be there to serve our County Chairman.
wow, kids, at least acknowledge that you aren’t total Koolaiders, and listened to what her handlers had her say:most of her remarks were about Obama and Washington, for heaven’s sake..I was for John, but I listened to her every word: it was she who started the negative against the answers, which resulted in the uncomfortable and negative response.. the room was packed. -we were runnning late: I almost hoped she’d step up, and be more nice, and more knowledgeable about where she would try to take us: it was NOT there!…. if she hadn’t allowed them to, “without her knowledge,” of course, put out the Soprano crap and the inaccurate contribution piece, she may well have made it; the main problem, from running a campaign standpoint, (for once, TAKE your emotions out of it!), was, there was simply not enough “county,” in there, she sounded like she was applying or a job with the next Admin. in DC, and I wish her well with that, and hope she gets one!!.. with more time in than Ernesto, I believe she still was too inexperienced, and having never run, herself, for anything, sorry, she simply fell short, it came off amateur-ish, and I heard two say they switched, because of the lack of speaking creds.. to run for a high office, either in a party or above, please, get elected to something ELSE, first: school board, local council, anything.. there’s no substitute for having done it before..so, lick your wounds, losing hurts, we’ve all been there.. then, stop the drama, John will do fine, and am sure he will accept and consider all your resumes and local recommendations for appointments to the new Board of Directors.. good luck, Mr. Chairman!
I’m a Hanlon supporter and agree her speech fell a little short. I would not have gone negative. I think her “advisors” did her a disservice by telling her to go into attack mode. Her agreeable, professional side would have won over the undecided’s I feel. Someone got to her and told her to go hard and bring up Bennetts negatives like it was a campaign for public office. Running for a party position is totally different. I also believe Oxley didn’t help her with the fiasco in the Highlands. I can’t believe JB is our county chair. Let’s see if he delivers on all the retoric. I will be there to hold him to it.
It was a record turnout. Although nearly all committee members did vote, apparently a very few did not vote — ostensibly because they did not like either candidate. The relatively low Monmouth GOP turnout in the recent primaries did not help Christine make her case. Receiving boos from a crowd is never a good sign, either. Still, all in all, Monmouth GOP should do well with the national GOP tide rising. It appears that negative campaigning doesn’t work as well as some may believe, as demonstrated in the recent Wisconsin recall and in recent elections in Monmouth. The new chair will do well to heed that and run clean, positive campaigns that deliver candidates people want to vote for. It appears that the MCRC rank and file are energized and that is a good sign.
whether by 1 or 1 million: happens all over our country and at all levels.. any small change in the tone of a phonecall, a direction of a speech, an interpretation of a mailpiece,a flat tire or sick child that night, etc., and there’d be some 306 other disappointed voters on the other side..look at the Pres. race: it’s a nearly equally-divided nation, so what’s so unusual about that?..I still believe the competition, and the requirement the new Chair will have, to make ALL candidates face their c.c. now,to be re-nominated, will be healthy for our party and democracy, and keep them all accountable, and on their games..look, who showed, showed, who voted, voted!..it was all fair, open, legal, and overseen by professional elections people..can you imagine trying to get it all done right, with with paper ballots of the past, for 615 voters, as in the old days?..and, with all the calling, knocking, begging, threatening, and dragging that ALWAYS goes on, in any contentious race, it is what it is, so get on board, either have your cry,or pity-party, or your celebration, as some of John’s supporters did at the American Hotel the other night, then, get over it, accept it,and get on with it, and then, help it all by rowing forward in the same direction, now….
By 3 votes, Bennet wins by 3 votes?
Wow this party is in trouble – who didn’t show up for Hanlon?
Hope John doesn’t think this is any type of mandate
Good Luck Mr. Bennett!
the best choice was made.
April fools joke!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a shame. Have no clue what is in store for this party. Maybe a New GOP will be started???
at the APP headquarters. Special guests? The Monmouth County Democrats.
Wow…that is the old boys network at work there.
Sigh…good luck Monmouth R’s…have fun with this one.

Monmouth GOP went from powerful to laughingstock in just two weeks. Between Anna Little and Bennett, Monmouth has reverted to the pre-Oxley dark ages.
Third Party anyone?

Hanlon should go work for the Governor now. She’s that good and that valuable to the GOP. She will land on her feet.
The dems are laughing their rears off. What a mess. Harry Larrison’s corrupt cabal is back.
Not that I’m wishing us a loss, but the odds are higher now that we will loose a race this fall. One or two losses and he’s history.
Besides, these “Good Old Boys” are not getting any younger and what’s coming up in the ranks ain’t going to play their game.
And Bennet had the nerve to thank
Western Monmouth… That puts more salt on the wound and certainly does NOT promote Party Unity.
So the line has been drawn in the sand by Bennett. From now on we are an East and West Monmouth County.
Way to go JB
NO comment is the best comment.
But An Eastern Monmouth Republican Committee has a pleasant ring.
@ Sometimes.
Thanks for the comment.

Well there goes Monmouth County…
Good thing it’s only 2 years

Just, you know, give me about a day or so.

I am with you.
Let’s hold him to all the promises.
