The Map
You’ve probably heard about the map that Rutgers grad Joe Steinfeld created on Monday night and posted to his reddit page. By Tuesday night over 750,000 people viewed it on facebook and reddit. The newspapers have all written about it.
Steinfeld was enjoying all the attention until his bosses at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection took a dim view of it and released a statement saying it had nothing to do with the department.
Steinfeld reduced Monmouth County to “WHERE THEY FILMED CLERKS,” BANKERS AND BUSINESSMEN,” WORKING CLASS PEOPLE AND BEACH HOUSES: SPRINGTEEN COUNTRY, ” and “McMANSIONS.”
Obviously, Steinfeld doesn’t know Monmouth all that well. The Bayshore is much more than where Kevin Smith filmed clerks. Coastal Monmouth is extremely diverse, as are the central , western and southern parts of the county.
Just for fun, how would you correct Steinfeld’s map?
No corrections. This map rocks!
omg. I grew up in New Jersey (pineys-pineys everywhere) and this is the funniest thing to come out of New Jersey in a real long time. The map doesn’t need to be “fixed”, “changed” or “translated”. It’s a joke, just a joke. Anyone who takes offense should sit down, take a deep breath, and wonder how the government is going to fix the economic mess we are in. Let’s get a perspective…..if this map had been introduced on “Saturday Night Live” the squawk would be “did you see that friggin’ map of New Jersey on Saturday Night Live? It was great!” End of Story.
i love it. And i agree it doesn’t need to be fixed, changed, translated–or “corrected.”
However, i would love for some long-time Monmouth County residents to add some of their own observations-some (half-true) (tongue-in-cheek) stereotypical quick takes on this magnificent county we live in, a county as Art says of enormous diversity. i hear about the Howell folks…Marlboro peoples… and you-all know the differences among all these little towns down our shore…
i don’t—i’m a benny—but/and would love to hear what the natives think of their compatriots. All in good fun of course…
The Bayshore should be labeled the Clamdigger region and the birth place of the tooth brush.
If the toothbrush had been invented anywhere else it would be called the teethbrush.
The Leonardo section of Middletown near the water should be called the loons.
I would start with a spell checker tool before publishing. Oh, and southern Ocean county is not Springsteen country.
Everyone get a sense of humor, hey I’m supposed to be a redneck or a hippie, I’m neither but this is riot!
I thought this was hysterical!!!
