Strong New Jersey Steps Up Campaign To Pressure Weiner To Resign
As the news of Anthony Weiner’s auto erotic photography becomes even more tawdry, Strong New Jersey Chairwoman Diane Gooch is stepping up her campaign to pressure Weiner to resign with radio ads.
Strong New Jersey launched a nationwide petition drive on the Internet 22 hours after Weiner’s Monday press conference in which he confessed to sending lewd photos of himself via the Internet to six women over a three year period including after he was married.
In the last twenty-four hours news was released the Weiner’s wife is pregnant and a photo of his nude genitals has been posted on the Internet.
Since the petition drive was launched at 2pm on Tuesday, over 5000 people have signed at WeinerMustResign.com, according to, according to Strong New Jersey spokesman Tony Sayegh.
MMM readers can listen to the radio ad below:
This is all well and good…and I agree he should resign..but will they do the same for Sen. Vitter who actually broke the law by frequenting prostitutes?
The hypocrisy astounds sometimes.
Not that I disagree with Rick, Diane, and most sane people, but as something to think about…. why should he resign? I mean, I agree he should for his lack of judgement, not just because he’s a Democrat 🙂 but think about the question, “why should he resign?”
I’d be willing to bet Rick $20 USD, or a gallon of gas — probably the same value next year — that should Weiner refuse to step down, and should Weiner run for office again in 2012, he will be re-elected by NY Democrats to that same seat over any Republican or 3rd Party candidate who dares come forward AND I’d bet that his local committee wouldn’t even support a challenger in the primary against him. Again, why should he step down; the people will surely re-elect him.
And again, not to be offensive (although I know it’ll be perceived as such) I suspect he, and his actions are actually representative of a majority of the Democrats who elected him. The basis of my argument can be seen in Charlie Rangel getting re-elected, again, by NY Democrats, Weiner supported Rangel’s defense. No one cared, Rangel was re-elected, his supporters, Weiner included, were re-elected.
Again, WHY should he step down? How many other NYers have sent photos of their junk to strangers? Wasn’t there a naked homeless guy on the subway a few weeks ago? I’m not sure/good at my NY geography, but is that Weiner’s district, or close enough?
Are the elected [supposed to be] “representative” of their district, or are they [supposed to be] of higher moral character and good role-models for their district? Why step down.
I have a problem with lying Jimmy. Not so much for what he did privately, but when you repeatedly lie to the people you’re supposed to represent, then he should just go. How can he be trusted now? How can his colleagues trust him.
My point was that it needs to be across the board. With Vitter, he broke the law and not a peep out of his peeps. He cheated on his wife and embarrassed his family, with illegal activity, yet he was allowed to stay on. Will Gooch start a radio campaign against him? I would doubt it. That’s where the hypocrisy comes into play.
Rick,
Vitter’s transgressions were exposed by Larry Flynt in 2007, long before Diane Gooch founded Strong New Jersey.
Vitter handled his problem very differently than Weiner has. He called a press conference the day following Flynt’s call to him and issued the following statement:
This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way
Vitter went on to be reelected by the people of Louisiana in 2010.
Rick, I’ll grant you that there was Republican hypocrisy in the Vitter case. The GOP would probably have been less forgiving had Louisana had a Republican governor in 2007. They forgave him rather than let a Democrat appoint his replacement. However, that hypocrisy is not Gooch’s.
Republicans just lost a seat on Congress because they sent that horn dog from Upstate NY packing within hours of the news that he sent a shirtless photo of himself to a woman on craigslist.
Overall Rick, you have to admit that Republicans have a better record of policing their own than the Dems do.
All I can say to that Art is….tap, tap, tap….
And good ‘ol Larry was allowed to stay even after pleading guilty for cripes sake.
And then there’s Newt. Speaker of the House after dumping wives. Nice.
Not saying at all that dems have been better at this…just look to ‘ol Billy boy, but you really can’t say that republicans have a better track record.
And I know that Gooch’s organization wasn’t around then, but I would bet you Jimmy’s $20 that she wouldn’t be doing this if it was a republican. As for that guy from upstate, I think there was something else going on there for that to happen as quickly as it did. Not sure what, but the cynic in me just knows there were other skeletons that he didn’t want coming out.
I just think Gooch should stay out of something that obviously doesn’t concern her or her district. She’s just doing this for more publicity anyway.
As I understand the Vitter situation, this was exposed 7 years AFTER the fact by the DC madam, AFTER Vitter had apologized to his wife and straightened out his life.
ARE THOSE FACTS CORRECT?
If so, I see a great difference in the Wiener case in that Wiener sent explicit and nude photos over the internet, he then got on national TV and lied to the people about being hacked; lied for a week as a matter of fact.
Now, people are not perfect. But it seems to me there’s a difference there Rick
Why is Gooch involved at all? Headline and Ambulance chaser perhaps….
the separate set of rules again!..the despicable Barney Frank did the deed with the young boys and is STILL there, unimpeded, stealing our money and liberty, every chance he gets.. Bubba, the ex-Pres., gets millions, after being impeached, for the lying abt. his behavior in our White House.. while a Mark Foley,R from Fla. voluntarily resigns to get help, for e-mailing to young boys.. the dichotomy, excuse-making, and and astounding arrogance of the way libs are treated vs. the way impefect R’s are dealt with,is,just, plain, disgusting, all around!
Pst..Diane,… wrong State. Have another scotch Dear and call it a night.
Told you so….

6/13/2011 – “Surveys of voters in Anthony Weiner’s district in Queens, NY show they forgive him and want him to remain as their congressman. End of story. This is a democracy, right? And the House of Representatives is the people’s house.”
I’m still going to be willing to put up that $20 bet (I know, gambling isn’t moral, I should be hung, got it)… if Weiner sticks it out, pun intended, until next year, not only will he get nominated, he’ll get re-elected; Charlie Rangel, Chuck Schumer and other NY Democrats will support him.
