Top Cop: Christie’s Chopper Flight Didn’t Cost Taxpayers Anything

By Art Gallagher

State Police Superintendent Colonel Rick Fuentes issued a statement to the media this afternoon stating that Governor Christie’s  helicopter ride to his son’s baseball game yesterday didn’t cost that taxpayers money because the Governor’s travel was required flight training for the pilot.

The cost of the actual trip was $2500.

Assemblyman Joe Cryan, the $112,000 undersheriff of Union County said, “but, but, uhm, hmmm.”

  1. This is a public relations disaster said at 7:00 pm on June 1st, 2011:

    Art,

No matter how many stories you post on your blog justifying this story–it’s not going to work.

The perception of this is absolutely horrible. Here we have a governor telling the residents of the state, that we must share in our sacrifices during the worst recession in American history. Unless of course your in the top 1% of income earners.

And here we have a governor who utilized a state police chopper–at costs of $2500 per hour with an armed state trooper landing at a football field so the governor and his wife can see their son play baseball at his private high school. Adding insult to injury, are reports the governor was ushered into a waiting limousine (with two troopers) and was driven a distance some say was a mere 100 yards–the distance of a football field from one end-zone to the other.

Again, public relations disaster. Before you say other governors did it–and I am sure they did–it still is unethical, and probably downright criminal.

And to add one more thing: The media reported that the baseball game momentarily halted as the chopper ascended to take the governor back to Princeton to meet a group of wealthy Iowans who are attempting to persuade the governor to enter the next presidential contest.

Sorry…I don’t think anyone can justify this one.

  2. Shame on Christie said at 7:50 pm on June 1st, 2011:

So the taxpayers paid for this pilot to sit on his ass while Christie watched the game? What a waste.

I like the governor but I lost a lot of respect for him.

I didn’t care about this story until you posted this lame excuse.

Like I tell my kids, if you do something wrong, lying about it only makes it worse.

for the arrogance to set in,it seems.. first, nobody was in charge when everyone was off for the holidays, and we got caught short with the blizzard of the decade, then, it looks like “VP-shopping” going on at Drumthwacket, and now, this unnecessary, ridiculous situation, while people can’t afford their own gas and mortgages- sorry, but they all better wise-up soon on “team Christie”, or it’ll start hurting the entire new legislative campaign, and any chance for re-election!!.so, get over yourselves, cut the crap, pay attention, people, and do it soon!

  5. Then why was the state reimbursed said at 3:27 pm on June 2nd, 2011:

Well, it looks like the state police commander was lying. Why would Christie reimburse the state–through the Republican Party??

Because it indeed was for personal use and it did cost the taxpayers money.

The bull and hypocrisy has to end. This is one Republican that voted for this man and will not do it again.

    I didn’t understand this comment:

The top 1% of income earners pay a lot more taxes than anybody else. Nationally, those 1% pay 40% of the total tax bill.
