Never in my wildest dreams did I think my life would change so when I logged on to “Honest Abe's” blog in January of 2006 and joined the fray of commenters debating Monmouth County Politics.  After almost five years, I think I've gotten the hang of this blogging thing well enough to turn it into a business.  One Democratic reader ( there are lots of them) told me I should have done this years ago.  Based upon this blog's traffic compared to other sites that sell advertising he is right.  Based upon my own standards for what a business should be, as opposed to a hobby, and my ability to deliver a quality product consistently, the timing is perfect.

I'd like to thank our first group of advertisers who took a shot on this site before seeing it, and for taking the chance advertising on a political blog.  “What if people complain that I'm advertising on a political blog they don't agree with?” several advertisers asked. “Then you'll know they saw your ad.” is the best response I could come up with on the fly.  So far it's worked.

Thanks to Grace Cangemi, our Advertising Sales Manager ([email protected] or 732-778-3973) who did a great job selling ads for a site that didn't exist yet.   Until I decided to turn the blog into a business, I did nothing to promote it. Only 2% of MMM's traffic came for search engines. The major thing that both Grace and I confronted as we started selling ads was how many people had never heard of the blog.  In our small circle of friends, “everybody” knew about it.  We're expanding our circle, “everyone” is going to hear about this site and our advertisers will be thrilled.

Democrats are welcome to advertise here too.  If they are smart they will.  It seems counter-intuitive that it would be smart to advertise on a site dedicating to beating your brains out and sending you into retirement.  So much of the Internet is counter-intuitive.  Here's why Democrats should advertise on this site:  The people who read this site are leaders and opinion makers.  More and more of the people you want supporting you and voting for you will be here between now and November 2.  Google Monmouth County Democrats .  The first listing is a myspace page.  Does anyone who votes still use myspace?  MMM is the next listing.  The Monmouth Democrats' own site doesn't even show up on the first page of the search.

If you're a Democratic candidate on the federal, county and municipal level (for the larger towns and the small towns we can cover) you're likely to take a beating here whether you pay us our not. If your ad and a link to your site is here, people will see it and visit your site if your lucky.  I'll even make fun of it to make sure people go and laugh for themselves.

Democrats are also welcome to submit material for publication, which will likely be ridiculed relentlessly in the comments.  

If they are smart, Democrats will advertise here and submit material here. Then again if they were smart, they would be Republicans.
