Amato told News12 that the lawsuit prompted him to submit his retirement papers six months earlier than planned.

Monmouth SPCA President and CEO Jerry Rosenthal released a statement saying, “The Monmouth County SPCA has a zero tolerance policy against discrimination and harassment. These allegations have been taken very seriously and have been under a thorough investigation.”

The lawsuit was filed by John H. Sanders of the Shebell & Shebell lawfirm in Shrewsbury on behalf of Suzanne Des Marias. In addition to Amato, the SPCA, Daren Harber, Arlene Opatut and 1-25 John/Jane Does are named as defendants.
